How many people lived in the old colonies? I've heard 3 million at most.

500,000 people out of three million? One out of 6 people. If that, in addition to everything else, doesn't prove that the militia is all of us, then you must be a member of HCI.

July 22, 1999:

"The Texas governor signed legislation this year barring cities in his state from suing gun makers for the costs of violence on their streets. He also has said he would have vetoed legislation defeated by the House that would have required a 24-hour background check on weapons sales at gun shows."

"That’s why I’m for instant background checks at gun shows. I’m for trigger locks."

Fighting for the expiration of the '94 "assault weapons ban!

What is an "Assault Weapon?"

The Future of the Ban

1/26/03: Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) introduces bill to repeal 1994 "Assault Weapons" Ban.

On January 8th, Rep. Paul introduced H.R. 153, The Second Amendment Protection Act of 2003.

Mr. Speaker, I rise to restore the right the founding fathers saw as ``the guarantee of every other right'' by introducing the Second Amendment Protection Act. This legislation reverses the steady erosion of the right to keep and bear arms by repealing unconstitutional laws which allow power-hungry federal bureaucrats to restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

Specifically, my legislation repeals the five-day waiting period and the ``instant'' background check, which enable the Federal Government to compile a database of every gun owner in America. My legislation also repeals the misnamed ban on ``semi-automatic'' weapons which bans entire class of firearms for no conceivable reason beside the desire of demagogic politicians to appear ``tough on crime.'' Finally, my bill amends the Gun Control Act of 1968 by deleting the sporting purposes'' test, which allows the Treasury Secretary to infringe on second amendment rights by classifying a firearm (handgun, rifle, shotgun) as a ``destructive device'' simply because the Secretary believes the gun to be ``non-sporting.''

Thomas Jefferson said ``The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; ..... that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.'' Jefferson, and all of the Founders, would be horrified by the proliferation of unconstitutional legislation which prevent law-abiding Americans from exercising their ``right and duty,'' to keep and bear arms. I hope my colleagues will join me in upholding the Founders' vision a free society by cosponsoring the Second Amendment Restoration Act."

If you really think we have a Republican-controlled "Senate", you're too dumb to post here.

Republican != conservative. Which is kinda the problem to begin with. There are too many republicans who think they can control conservatives because we have no where else to go.

If a gun ban comes from the republican controlled house, senate and president, then they are worthless. Dont blame me for liberal/moderate republicans who shoot their party in the foot. McCain is worthless because he compromises conservative principles with leftists. Lets hope Bush does not go over the edge like McCain. If he does well then, he is worthless.

So, are you going to wait the year and a half for this bill to come up for renewal before you put that foot down? Funny how the usual folks display the usual indignation when provoked by the usual BS.

No we are going to wait till the last second as if everything is perfectly ok. The ammo for this BS comes from Bush.

"I have witnessed nationwide lawlessness created by an invasion of millions of illegal aliens while President Bush and the rest of our so-called leaders, stand by and watch this epic crisis continue to escalate, at the same time our second amendment is being chipped away incrementally, one small step, one law, one regulation at a time"

I'm with you...It's a pity the "neo's" buy on to this

It's an ordained right from our creator for women to shop and look as nice as they'd like.

It's also my G-d given duty to help her. I'm just eternally grateful she cares and I try to keep up.

She's borne our children..she deserves no less.

She is going to start unloading some stuff on E-bay. The consignment shops don't pay as well. Suits me....she has already usurped 1/2 my closet space and I'm no fashion maven personally. A&F long shorts and Polos in the summer and cheap jeans and a pile Jacket or wool sweaters in winter. One black suit for the bank and social events/funerals/weddings etc.

She on the other hand should have been borne on "Page Six"...lol

We have to win hearts and minds first. We've just begun. There's a lot more work to do.

OK, and how do you go about doing that, when in the last 30 years, literally thousands of gun laws have been made law. How do you plan on reversing this ever incremental intrusion on our rights?

We are really on a knife edge here, historically. I a few years we could:

/1/ See an outbreak of Islamikazi terrorism which would lead to open carry of semi auto rifles by volunteer "home guards" on street corners, in front of schools etc. All current "assault rifle" laws swept aside.

/2/ We could totter along the way we have, for one more generation until we old farts die off, and the brainwashed gun-phobic generation takes over and eventually bans them all. Or,

/3/ We have that horrific "assault rifle massacre" during a "Hillary-esque" presidency with a 'rat congress, leading to an out right ban in just a few years.

Flip a coin, I have no clue.

Actually flamethrowers are not regulated by the Federal Government and onl a few states regulate them. Also Tanks themselves are not regulated but the weapons that may be mounted on them are.

Oh come on Debbie, the fixes are easy for most all of our problems. But the real problem is big government. For example, when Cal voted for and passed prop 187, and well, you know the rest.....

Where do you get the idea he'll lose out politically if he vetoes this bill? Gun owners not only vote, they decide elections. There are far more union Democrats who will vote Republican only for the 2nd Amendment than there are Republicans who will vote Democrat for gun control. If not for the gun issue, Gore would have won Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Arizona, and Missouri; he also would have blown Bush away in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, and Maine, enabling him to save time spent campaigning in those states and thus to win a few more states that, in the real election, went handily to Bush. (Georgia, Colorado, and Louisiana, perhaps). The gun issue turned what would have been a Gore landslide into a close victory for Bush. Do you think Terry McAuliffe avoids the gun issue out of courtesy for Bush? I think not!

I've never understood the thought that Republicans' supporting gun control helps them somehow. The logic seems to be that they thereby become more moderate; the problem is that they're becoming more moderate in ways that don't resonate with voters. When you have a moderate Democrat who's anti-right-to-work and pro-gun, he's less likely to vote for a pro-right-to-work, anti-gun Republican than for a pro-right-to-work, pro-gun Republican. Follow? Have some faith in the American people! Most of them aren't gun grabbers, regardless of what Dan Rather says.

That much said, I wish someone other than Chuck Baldwin had made this point. His PCP-addled mind has already come up with some psychotic theories that Bush is trying to take over the world, so his support for getting rid of this tyrannical law hurts our case by making us all seem to be wackos like him.

While I support the right to bear arms, I would vote for a ban on assault weapons.....unless someone takes the time to educate me in simple terms.

If assault weapons are so rarely used in crime, why all the hoopla when certain military-style-semi-automatic weapons were banned by the Crime Control Act of 1994? A Washington Post editorial (September 15, 1994) summed it up best:

No one should have any illusions about what was accomplished (by the ban). Assault weapons play a part in only a small percentage of crime. The provision is mainly symbolic; its virtue will be if it turns out be be, as hoped, a stepping stone to broader gun control.

Don't blame those of us who voted for Bush, but we, too, are the victims of your mistake.

I noticed you didnt bother to respond to Bush's self initiated gun ban. Bush is responsible for his actions. Neither he nor you are owed a vote.

Funny how you people bend over backwards trying to get liberals to support you but take conservatives for granted.

Thanks for that info.
My point was that gun ownership is (partly) to prevent government from becoming oppressive (it may be too late, but I don't think so).
