If we help Iraq build a free, open and prosperous society, it won't matter much if Saddam and his cronies live out their lives in some fear-soaked bunker in Syria.

Having Russia, France, Syria, Iran, Al Qaeda use deposed Sadddddddamnn leaders spear-head THEIR HELP in retaking Iraq when we were all calmed down, withdrawn and maybe preoccupied with N Korea etc. could really be a bummer.

You've got a good point. Saddam in sanctuary is a cause for worry for the Iraqi people.

This may be a dumb question, but it's an honest one: why didn't we secure the border and especially the roads in and out of Syria if we didn't want the leaders to flee there? Would it have been a logistical nightmare?
