..in favor of blandness, monotony, and agreeability.

Isn't that all a bit redundant?

Orwell wrote better than you probably remember. I am sure you will enjoy it on another read-through.

Orwell writes beautifully; I could only hope to approximate his style when I'm drinking, and then it would look bad in the morning. His message, however, is timeless and unmistakeable.

But, he did accurately lay out the 'logic' necessary to run a truly monstrous totalitarian state. Judging from recent events, one could call Orwell a truly prescient individual.

No doubt. He was a dramatically principled man, who acquired his morality first-hand.

I think I misread the poster's original intent and put my word in where it didn't belong.

I am convinced the key to imposing doublething is control over the structure of language --overuse of the metaphor, evasive (bland) abstraction, deletion of confrontive concepts and vocabulary, and so forth.

Really?
I am shocked and saddened!

Orwell is, at best, an amusing distraction.

---------------

So are you, but not nearly so amusing.

1984 was a novel, and a rather mediocre one at that. Presenting it as a study of rhetoric [?] is emabarassing[sic]. For you.

Thank you for sharing that with us.
Even idiots are entitled to an opinion

Should I ever need some more unusual but deep literary insights, I'll look for your trailer park...

Follow any internet chalatan [sic] you want, but this is trash. And I read it twice.

You're not an academic, I hope.

Perhaps your [sic] right, and I mischaracterized the poster's intent. I just never assumed that something I read in 8th grade would lend itself to "in-depth analysis."

Perhaps you should have paid more attention in class; both literary tools and devices and spelling... Got a dictionary? Try "pompousness" and "sophistry".

He He. You serious? I'll follow you around for awhile, mkay?

But I am curious to see if you can actually present an example of sophistry in anything I wrote. I doubt you can.

Classic. You're hurt by my slagging of Orwell. What an intellect!

You and me both.

No need to thank me. Ask a hard question next time.
Opinions are a dime a dozen; Useful comments are something else entirely.

And have a nice day.

Don't get me wrong, I like Orwell. I just thought the essay was unintelligible. And then I catch all this crap from the Clown College. What gives?

Pretty pathetic effort, and certainly not sophistry. Do you know what sophistry is?

Sophistry: "A plausible but misleading or fallacious statement"

Usually used by academics replete with big words and rife with spelling errors, I might add.
And invariably devoid of content.

But I already told you, I'm not an academic. And you gonna jump on me for typos? On Friday night?

My wife treats me better than that!
