And so, as I wait for our public officials to stop playing politics, with apologies to the people of Chinatown, I won't be coming around for a very long time. The way this continues to spread, Chinatown will be coming to him and the rest of us before long.

Helping things along, is the mentality expressed by a guy in an e-discussion group, who implied the author is racist, for "stigmatizing" the Chinese.

Oh brother. Was it racist to deem the 1918 pandemic the "Spanish flu"?
I do think, though, that we should have come up with a better name for SARS, though. That's way too bland.

"In spite of all the lies the Chinese have told, there is no apparent reason for them to lie, in pinpointing chlamydia viruses rather than a coronavirus as the cause of SARS."
Gee, it seems to fit their population control agenda perfectly...cull the population and scare the people out of rolling in the rice for fear of chlamydia/SARS.
Not to mention it sets the stage nicely for multi level expansion by weakening their neighbors and foes. And notice the timing...how convenient to have all eyes on Iraq.

If that is the case I bet they never dreamed it would bite them in the economy the way it has. People are just short of not buying "made in China" out of fear.

Oh brother. Was it racist to deem the 1918 pandemic the "Spanish flu"? Apparently, so. Of course, the same mentality calls it "demeaning" when sports teams honor Indians by naming themselves after them.
I do think, though, that we should have come up with a better name for SARS, though. That's way too bland.
True, and seemingly redundant: "severe, acute ..."? A day or two ago, a scientist proposed naming it after Carlo Urbani, a doctor who was treating SARS patients at the French Hospital in Hanoi, and died of it. His proposal is about three times as long as the current name. I wonder how Joe Genius (deRisi) feels about that. Something tells me that Joe and Dr. Proposal aren't buddied up.

Don't get me started on the Chinese. The moment I heard about this virus, I suspected it might have been the result of a biowarfare experiment gone awry ... or aright.
