23 is an interesting number. There's a 23rd Marines, isn't there?

Yes, there are some units from 23rd Marines incountry. That is a reserve infantry regiment.

The three active duty MarDivs have the low numbered regiments. 1-9 are infantry, 10-12 are arty. The regimental numbers went up to at least 28 in WWII, I think. The guys who raised the flag on Iwo Jima were from the 28th Marines, as I recall. The 4th MarDiv (the reserve division) has the 23rd, 24th and 25th infantry regiments.
