I agree, close that border with Canada. Why on earth the Canadian/US border is virtually non-existent is beyond me, particularly after 9/11.
NO Canadians should be admitted to U.S. medical facilities anyway. I mean, they've got that GREAT socialized medicine, right???

"I'm not anti-American at all."Oh really? Then explain this:
"As far as America-bashing by Canadians is concerned, well I think you could stand to have a little thicker skin. After all, if you're going to be the world's sole superpower and do whatever you want wherever you want in the world, it should hardly come as a surprise that some will resent you, even if that resentment is entirely rational. And as far as Canadians go, you try living next to a country whose population greatly outnumbers yours, whose culture tends to swamp yours, and who followed a doctrine called "Manifest Destiny" for many years that suggested that you wanted to (forcibly?) make us part of your country (yes, I know that was many years ago), and you might begin to understand the undercurrent of anti-Americanism in Canada. "
That *is* anti-American. As for your arrogance in pointing out gaul vs gall -- I'll stick with gaul -- it means more to me -- not only arrogance but cowardice -- just like Canada.
Canada has crossed the line, as far as I'm concerned. Canada is no different than Germany, France, Syria and Cuba. May you all feel the sting of American rath!!

"Sorry but yoour system will collapse, we will close the border and await the (US)CDC to give us the cure - if there is any left, you folks can have sloppy seconds - as is usual and the custom of the French Canadians."Well said.

BS!! Harder, shmarder. You're just first because you have even poorer control of your borders than we do. Your hospitals and docs are closing down because they are quarantined, and they are protecting their own *workers*, not the public. That means you're sending SARS patients south across the border to be treated and tested. Why the heck can't Canada handle this situation? It's not smallpox or ebola or even a busload of diabetics at a marshmallow roast, after all.
Good grief. What a bunch of helpless...

I think it explains itself. Oh, btw, this: "even if that resentment is entirely rational" was mean to say "even if that resentment is NOT entirely rational".
In any case, if you want to take that as anti-American, that's your problem. I think you're wrong in comparing us with France or Germany (you want to experience anti-Americanism, go there), and just plain out in left field in comparing us to Syria or Cuba. But like I say, that's your problem. I'm done going back and forth with you on this. And if you want to continue using the wrong spelling of "gall", that's up to you, too.

They have a pretty darn good system for the money, though. (China) 4% of GDP goes to medical care.

Yeah, I think it is anti-American. And I think Canada is just one of the gang -- Germany, France, Syria, Canada and Cuba. Absolutely. That's where you line up. This is from David Horowitz and he lays it out as those who support good and those who support evil -- Canada chose to stab the good guys in the back and support evil:
""We have come to a post-Cold War historic turning point. We have entered the era of a new civil war between the forces of freedom and the powers of Islamo-fascist and communist darkness, and once again the left is clearly detemined to take its stand on the other side. The good news is that America is back. Our military has performed superlatively. Our leadership has stood tall. We ourselves can celebrate over this and look confidently towards what lies ahead."

Really sorry I did misunderstand, I listened to CBC the other night and gathered what I knew from them. Perhaps their reporting needs work?

"I agree, close that border with Canada. Why on earth the Canadian/US border is virtually non-existent is beyond me, particularly after 9/11." May I remind you that NONE of the 9/11 terrorists came from Canada. May I also remind you how reliant we are on Canada for stuff like oil, natural gas, electricity, etc. When we have blackouts across the country and gas for you car is hard to come by and the entire automotive sector has been closed - maybe then you'll realize the stupidity of the "close the border" nonsense...

Perhaps none of the terrorists were FROM Canada, but some came THROUGH Canada and one grand attempt was, mercifully, foiled!
As for all the stuff we supposedly can't live without that is allegedly obtained from Canada -- what rubbish!
Just what part of Canada are you from, eh Dr. Luv?
To: CarmelValleyite
You need a visit to the fact store my friend and perhaps a better grasp of continental economics.
First fact:
NONE of the 9/11 terrorists came through or had anything to do with Canada - we let them ALL in ourselves.
Fact two:
Canada is our largest trading partner - we buy and sell more stuff with them than any other country, including an enormous amount of the natural resources that keep our country running. Canada is the largest source of petroleum for the United States - more than Venezuela - more than Saudia Arabia. Don't you think "shutting the border" would be a stupid thing to do now? Or maybe you don't own a car?
Fact three:
I'm a New York City boy that despises stupidity in his fellow Freepers...

So glad you live in New York City -- feel free to beat your breast about the wonders of Canada; clearly, many of us on this thread are not interested...

"clearly, many of us on this thread are not interested..."
Not interested in facts? Yes, that was self-evident...

(You show me a country that doesn't have clear title to property, and I'll show you a poor country!)
To: Dr. Luv
So what do you think of the way Canada is not joining us in our efforts? And since we effectively cannot close the border, what do you propose we do about their own illegal, or lax immigration policies?
BTW, I didn't know that we import more oil from Canada than any other country, unless I read what you wrote wrong. Interesting.
Furthermore, having just ridden the E,F,N and #7 trains, I'd like to know what you think should be done to contain SARS, if anything. What's your opinion?
