Trex is the better option for the decking, not for the rails and pickets. For that you need the real stuff. Plus, it takes more wood in the undersupports because of the 12" on center as opposed to 16". I'm not advocating the decrease in cutting of trees believe me. Just prefer to see that beautiful wood used better. Trex is a great use of sawdust. The last 3 ramps my husband made built, used redwood as treads but the redwood you get is not red. I'll send you a picture so you can marvel at the beauty of it all.

...just pulling your leg. Different applictions dictate different solutions.
My house is built on concrete and steel as wood beams wood have occupied most of the headroom in the basment.
