Or possibly a faction in the Russian government unfriendly to Putin? The retired Soviet generals who are said to have done the command and control bit for Saddam are also said to be from an anti Putin faction. I haven't a clue, but it's about as likely as Putin doing the deed, IMHO. He doesn't need the aggravation right now.

If Turkey (a US-armed, US ally) invaded Iraq, it would seem to me the designation of "ally" status would be of more concern to the US than anything involving Russia! LOL
