Obviously, with 95% of the Muslim world hostile to us, one shouldn't make too much out of this. But between Kosovo, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAR, Qatar, and Iraq, we are starting to build a "coalition" of Muslim states that see what's going on. I think this is an important step.

This is more than important. It is the symbology of the people finally realizing that it is safe to be religious and democratic at the same time. Pandora's Box has been opened. Now it is up to the USA to defend the results.

"Allah make America strong" is the new word on the Arab street.

I caught that report about Kuwait; as I remembered it they said, "Pray for the strength of Islam, pray for the strength of the United States." Sounded great!

The very fact that they talked back to their religious leader is amazing to me. And for America is at that.

Maybe some of them are learning that "Alla T'Allah" does NOT always know best.
It's time for the vanquished to 'learn to understand' the victors....for a change.

I've had the same impulse in my local Catholic parishOur pastor is left of center but has tried not to say too much other than pray for the 'situation'.
It was my turn to sing yesterday so I did 8 verses of "Eternal Father, Strong to Save". Sang the Marine verse, Coast Guard verse, airman's verse, submariner's verse, medical corp verse, got 'em all in. Lots of people thanked me after Mass.

Perhaps more moderate voices will begin to be heard.

The Middle East understands power - raw power. And that is what this war is showing them. Kuwait and the other Arab peoples have seen the difference between the Iran-Iraq War (ended in a draw) and the Coalition's quick campaign.

What This Flag Means
I've never seen this flag before
All I've ever seen is war
But these big strong men have brought it here
And they drove out each and every fear
Those bad, bad men who they put down
Are either dead, or they left town
It's so pretty, this red, white and blue
If it means freedom, I want it too

It's not just power. They are happy Saddam is gone, and they see how happy their fellow Iraqi Muslims are, and this makes them happy. If they were afraid of America, they would no be interrupting their clerics--that's not how scared people act.

The Middle East understands power - raw power. You are correct.
The power of radical Islam has not matched the power of the US military.
We can hope some are rethinking their position.
