Badmouthing a referee is uncalled for. You'd think that by now the public school playgrounds would have instant replay.

Badmouthing a referee is uncalled for Maybe, but it is far from being an offense worthy of a suspension.

It appears that school administrations will do anything to avoid making any sort of individual decisions, based on the facts at hand. Zero-tolerance = zero-thinking. What would these people do if they actually had to make a judgment call? They avoid it like the plague, and default to anonymous, *unaccountable*, one-size-fits-all bureaucratic rules and regulations.
This behavior is opposite of what is supposed to be the American way of thinking. No wonder this country is going to hell in a hand basket. The road to hell is paved with do-gooder zero-tolerance policies, and these people are hiding behind the children.

FLASH: young Madison spent the two days in Bible school where he relearned the evils of homosexuality and was instructed to express his feeling the next time thus,"Oh like that was NOT-gay!"

I am going home tonight. I live 50 miles from GJ. Guess I'll make a couple of phone calls Monday!

Schools are so out of hand.New funding for brand new schools has brought in school suspensions in a basement rm. with no windows for minor things. And the principal (because of federal funding) does NOT have to inform the parents if they so choose. Nowadays a spit wad, or farting is a crime. The language in suspension papers sounds as if kids were entering Leavenworth. No wonder parents need to hire lawyers-nowadays.
The term "gay" as in THAT IS SO GAY, means that is so dumb stupid, nerdy.

A sixth-grader whose ball was called out of bounds during a playground game was suspended for calling the student referee's call "gay."Notice, he didn't call the student ref "gay", he referred to the 'call' as gay.
He was suspended.
If I was this parent I would have hit the ceiling, been in the principle's office, the district administrator's office, every one of the school board members offices.
I think I would have raised such a stink that they would have thought they had all been eating beans for weeks.

My childrens' school has a similar "no put-downs" policy.
My kindergartner was reprimanded for telling a classmate: "I can throw a ball farther than you."
Well, my son CAN throw a ball farther than the classmate. So, he was just stating a FACT.
Idiots.

So did the mother explain the dictionary meaning of the word "gay" or the slang term. Seems that slang is becoming the standard.
This is a great example of stupid weenie people in our lives.

It appears that school administrations will do anything to avoid making any sort of individual decisionsI don't know if this is urban legend story or not but I was told about a kid who used a plastic knife to playfully threaten another child. The school moved to have him expelled for using a deadly weapon. The parents in turn sued the school for supplying deadly wepaons to children.

Kids and teenagers are indeed mouthy and cocky. They always have been. Nowadays, society promotes "If it feels Good,Do It" And lying is OK because of a definition of the word IT or IS.
Kids indeed need more discipline and respect but the language of kids is done, the "eff" word and disrespect is a product of our If "it feels good, just do it",kids have rights, hideous rap music- garbage. Then they turn around and suspend for flatulance,it doesn't jive together. No matter how many suspensions given the societal damage is done.Bill Clinton put in the history books that perjury is fine and lie. You can teach manners and respect at home-Yes Maam, No sir, and the culture at school corrupts because of mixed (leftist NEO UNION protecting even bad, abusive teachers) messages.
Then add the thought police. And the promotion of homosexuality as being OK and it is a grand mess.

I like the way you're thinkin',gal! You are so absolutely correct. Zero tolerance is just a way for cowardly administrators to hide and avoid making a rational decision. Of course, if they were ticketed for 56MPH in a 55MPH zone, they would squeal like a stuck hog. Stupid, cowardly, hypocritical lefties...
To: TexRef
The role of educators I guess has been extended to become the first line of thought police, protecting maybe no one from insults not directed at them.

In a brand newly built ( mostly federally funded) school, the new chalk boards required special cleaning with a chemical spray. A boy was suspended for accidentally getting the chemical spray in another students space and around their face. When every day they randomly pick three or four people to clean the chalk brds. by order of the teacher.
A 1st grader was suspended for three days at home for bringing a bullit 'casing' from WWII from her grandpa's grave as show in tell.

A sixth-grader whose ball was called out of bounds during a playground game was suspended for calling the student referee's call "gay."The mother is exactly right.
My kids have used the word "gay" that way for years, as have their friends and classmates. "That's gay!", means "that's stupid!", or sometimes it means, "that's weird!".
But one thing is for sure, kids absolutely do not buy into the politically correct crowd's attempts to make them "tolerant". The kids also know the sick meaning of the word "gay" and they know it means something filthy and unnatural. They know this instinctively. The kids laugh at all the "tolerance, diversity, and sensitivity" training they get in school. They laugh behind the teachers' backs.
