He forgot to use the phrase "perfumed princes." He's losing it.

Well, leave it to me to say ony eatsy-weensy little nice comment about Hackworth...then I'll go away quitly...
Hackworth is awesome when it comes to tactics. Probably one of the best there ever was. Sadly, he's no strategist, but then everyone has their weaknessess. More importantly, he doesn't seem to have a clue when it comes to the topic of international relations. That's an area where he's as dumb as sh*t.
Also, when Hackworth errs, it's ALWAYS on the side of protecting our troops. This may not always be visible in some of his rants, but there's no one in the past few years who have concerned themselves more with quality of life and quality equipment for our boys in arms. NO ONE. The only person who has done more isn't even a person, it's the FREE REPUBLIC.
As for me, I was quite upset at how the Pentagon decided to fight this war. Now I'm just a little upset. Believe or not, the brass REALLY DID make some stupid mistakes in the early days that were 100% preventable. But, I will the generals credit in that they have seen the errors of there ways, and are doing a great job bringing this war to a quick & speedy conclusion.
The only time I've actually heard Hack say anything regarding this war, was one night, about three or four days after D-day, when he was on Sean Hannity's radio show. He was very, very supportive of the troops and the generals, and if he had any criticisms of how things were going, he kept them to himself.
Personally, I hope Hackworth keeps up his criticisms of the Pentagon, whether they are deserved or not. The Pentagon has screwed-over American troops on far more than one occassion, and though they seem to be on the ball at this PARTICULAR POINT IN TIME, that does not mean they always will be. Just wait until Hillary is elected...
O.K., that's all...carry on....

Its like he's jealous of what is being accomplished, just like McCaffery and all the other retired officers who turned into talking heads. I'd say your assumption is correct. It's our own American version (internal jealousy) of what France, Germany and Russia feel toward us as a country. Most democrats resent Republican successes. They don't think in terms of COUNTRY, OUR country. They think of their own self aggrandizement.

Poor Hack is delusional, utterly without class, and needs to be distempered...as in rabid dog.
Like so many others, he has now completely shredded any credability, that he ever had. Ego and envy are two very destructive emotions.

You were just amongst the wrong crowd. Many FREEPERs, long ago, tweeked into how bloody dreadful; not to mention delusional Hack was/ is.

I'm beginning to wonder if Hackworth, Arnett, and Michael Moore are part of a sophisticated disinformation scheme to convince the Iraqis that they're winning. In Panama we blasted Noriega et al with rock music to mess up his mind. Perhaps the CIA has a subliminal feed of these guys into Iraqi TV to mess up Saddam. Then again, all Saddam has to do to be misinformed is to watch his pet network, CNN.

What irritates me about him is that he always claims to stand "for the troops," but he has a strictly Democrat attitude: they're a bunch of helpless victims, and we can "help" them only by not putting them into conflict. Thus our military just becomes a back-door means of giving welfare in the form of G.I. Bills and other veterans' benefits. A Republican attitude would be that of any of the Fox News analysts: our troops deserve our support and our confidence in their ability. We also demand that they earn their paycheck when it becomes necessary--something that the vast majority of them are willing to do, Col. Hackworth notwithstanding.

Lots of people died early during the Clinton administration: Vince Foster, Les Aspin, Ron Brown for starters.

That was my first reaction, but in retrospect I have concluded otherwise. He has actually remained pretty consistent in that he always bitches about how awful the military is. The mere fact that he was right during Clinton's habitation in the Oval Office merely proves that a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Col. Hackworthlessness was in Austin, Texas, recently at a book signing. Several of us Republicans went to meet and greet him. We thought he was a good Republican type. However, after some time, our Governor happened to walk in and got in line to get his book signed (he wore a baseball cap so no one recognized him).
By the time Governor Perry got in front of Hackworth for his book signing, I recognized the governor, mentioned to Hackworth who he was and NEVER got a response. However, the rest of us made a big deal...that our Governor was there. We all yelled and clapped for him.

Hack didn`t predict that figure of 20,000 dead. In fact, he was the first to predict that that war wouldn`t last as long as everybody else was saying.

You simply don`t know the man to say such a thing. COL Hackworth is a true patriot and a honest American. It may help you and your fellow radical republicans to read his books before you form a opinion about him.

He may very well be a true patriot and an honest American.
However as a miltary analysis, well, let's just say you could take everything he's said, reverse it and he would have been absolutely accurate.
Ergo he's either a military idiot or has an agenda. If he's as honest as you say then he's an idiot.
To: DUGSTR
Kudos to you for bumping this one after today's celebrations in Iraq!
