From
http://www.dscp.dla.mil/subs/rations/meals/mres.htm HOW DO I EAT IT?
Except for the beverages, the entire meal is ready to eat. While the entree may be eaten cold when operationally necessary, it can also be heated in a variety of ways, including submersion in hot water while still sealed in its individual entree package. Since mid 1992, a flameless ration heating device has also been packed into each meal bag to heat the entree.

I wish they would let this story chill out..they've been on it since Monday mid day. War is hell and waving a vehicle to stop is universal sign language. There are a reported 4000 hostiles pouring over the borders to help kill Americans. Troops have had several check point incidences already.
Why can't the American public accept for one moment that a female is just as capable of committing terror crimes as a man? Also possible that the driver (I assume a female) was forced to do what she did to make some effective Iraqi propaganda? Hell, we don't know, but this story is damaging to troops who are watching cable news: it may cause them to hesitate the next time. Linda Vester and now Lori Duh are picking it apart by saying things like; "surely the guys will ALWAYS have second thoughts about what they've done?"
It's a new day, maybe with things moving as fast as they are, the news channels should rotate a story once it's 12 to 24 hours old. It's over, it's sad, but a check point stop with three warnings is just that.

I'm listening to Laura Ingraham's radio show. She's really ripping into Peter Arnett.

The response I received in Email from National Geographic:
National Geographic has received voluminous e-mail correspondence today
regarding Peter Arnett, which will require some time to process. We
appreciate your patience as we work our way through it. In the meantime, we
did want to make sure you were aware of our decision to end Mr. Arnett's
association with National Geographic. Here is the statement we released
this morning.
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STATEMENT REGARDING PETER ARNETT
The National Geographic Society has terminated the services of Peter
Arnett. The Society did not authorize or have any prior knowledge of
Arnett's television interview with Iraqi television, and had we been
consulted, would not have allowed it. His decision to grant an interview
and express his personal views on state-controlled Iraqi television,
especially during a time of war, was a serious error in judgement and wrong.

This was posted at Anandtech regarding the Frito Bandito
"He was with a (U.S.) military unit in the field and the commander felt that he had compromised operational information by reporting the position and movements of troops," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told Reuters.
