A friend of mine distributed this at one of the Chicago hippiefests:
HOW TO PROTEST SOMETHING
1) Abandon your regular obligations as an adult (work, school, family) to show up.
2) Disrupt as many people who are tending to their obligations as you can.
3) Very important: CHANT SOMETHING. A very popular chant always begins with the words “Hey hey, ho ho” or some such nonsense.
4) Look as hysterical as possible for the TV news cameras.
5) Ignore orders from the local police to disperse.
6) Also very important: GET ARRESTED. It makes you feel like you’re “made a difference” and it also serves to spend several thousand dollars of your own money getting yourself out of jail and answering to criminal charges.
7) Compare things to Vietnam. After all, the 60s aren’t REALLY dead.
8) Hold up the back side of this sheet to the TV cameras for a “White balance”. It makes the angst on your face look much more sincere.
9) Get the lingo right. You’re not being “arrested by the police”, you’re being “hassled by the man”.
