As if we needed any more convincing that journalism schools are a joke. Now being truthful in reporting the news is merely "nice," a far cry from absolutely essential.
I'm not really a translator, but I did sleep at a Bagdad Inn Express.

Kirk Douglas: "I am Sa...."
Tony Curtis: "No, I am Saddam Hussein."
Chorus: "I am Saddam Hussein!"

Huh? They used someone with an accent for the translation? I detest See BS News, too, but this hardly qualifies as "faking" the interview.

No doubt it did meet CBS standards, and therein lies the problem.

i HEARD THAT TOO. YOU AINT A MARINE UNTIL YOU GRADUATE!!
To: MindBender26
Can you imagine how this would have gone over if Saddam were black and they faked him using ebonics!

The Book of Revelations describes a "white hot star burning up a third of the Earth.... and the name of the star is Wormwood."
The Russian word for "wormwood" is chernobyl. No joke.

They passed it off as the real deal. THAT is called FAKING the interview. If that is OK with you then maybe you still need some cleasing of the dross in your soul.

Huh? They used someone with an accent for the translation? I think they used this actor to speak in arabic, pretended it was Saddam's voice, and then dubbed in the english translation.

Fake accent is particularly inappropriate in this interview because the interpreting itself became an issue when the (real) interpreter ommitted "Mister" referring to Bush and Saddam corrected him. This made the real interpreter a minor contributor of content, rather than mere clerical help.

Get out of here! Are you serious? Meaning that he was free to interpret the expressions and tone of the answers Saddam gave any way he wished? This is incredible!
Just who exactly is CBS behind in this war? Iraq? Apparently yes. I liked the interpretation Imus gave about this Dan Rather interview. He said: "All you need to know about Dan Rather is that he interviewed the first Bush in '91 and picked a fight with him, and then he interviewed Saddam Hussein for 2 hours and kissed his ass."

Sorry. I was wrong on that assumption. He evidently provided the accent for the translation.

It didn't violate CBS News standards and practices, the network said Well, there's your mistake. You actually thought CBS had standards!
