I saw the designers explaining this concept in the White House Press Room...beats the heck outta the Viet Nam Memorial's original design, IMHO...our memorials need to celebrate the lives of those lost in addition to mourning their passing...this memorial may end up accomplishing both...MUD

"I'd trade all those stories for double the crowd size!"

Not me, my FRiend!! The news was made by CSPAN showing up and recording all the great speakers, especially Aziz's Pro-American Iraqi-Americans, as I ended up seeing Aziz on FNC the next day, and expect Bob Dornan's speech to be replayed fer years to come. IMHO, the tape of this event should be edited into a 30-minute VHS or DVD that can be sent around to ConservativeGroups--with an ANNOUNCEMENT fer the next BIG Rally--who can help out with attendance at our next BIG Rally!! Y'all did an excellent job with the staging and keeping everything rollin'...if we keep rallying the troops, folks will come as the weather turns more hospitable!!

I had emailed Ms. Beckman, one of the 2 winning architects, to tell her I liked her idea best and that as one of a group that had attended to a makeshift memorial, her design would be most welcome in my community. You may want to know that Ms. Beckman responded as follows:
I wanted to thank you for you lovely note. We are incredibly honored to be participating in the discussion at this level. Our goal is to create a place that is both solemn and beautiful, unlike any other place around because that day was like no other day. We hope the space allows for personal reflection and interpretation.

We think that your involvement with the temporary memorial is very honorable, gracious, and kind. I'm sure your presence there is felt by all those who stop by. I hope you get a chance to stop by the National Building Museum to see all the varied proposals that were submitted.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Sincerely,
Julie Beckman
The Pentagon Memorial will now go through a fundraising stage. I wonder if there's a way we could help to participate in that stage by helping to organize something. We shall see, I'll keep tabs on it.

I *could* be wrong, but I think this is the proposal where the space between the memorial and the western are of the Pentagon is separated by a wall with flowing water, too.

You're being very gracious as one who submitted a design. I think it's a great idea. Perhaps we could sponsor the BKO bench.

BKO bench is a great idea. (Ended up not submitting myself after all -- long story.)

A widow speaks about why she likes the design. Boy, I hope CSPAN rebroadcasts this. They played it this morning on CSPAN 2.
