LOL . . . just a little sarcasm (I must have my sarcasm detector turned up a bit high . . . ;-) )

Catlin, just for grins, painted his nephew in Mandan attire, and made him look faintly ridiculous . . . rather like a White Liberal Brother . . . I can't find it on the web, but look around for it, it's good.

I think this is my favorite. "Old Bear" the shaman must have been a supremely confident man to display his materia medica in all their glory before Catlin.

When do they put him back in his cage?

"Despite all my rage, I am still just a 'Rat in a cage."

It's OK, he seems to have a good heart, but just a little stubborn.

Our basic disagreement is about whether or not pre-emptive military action against a sovereign state is ever justified (and again, I contend that it is).

FYI, Mr. Mojo, the opposite point of view has historically been expressed most often by . . . Henry Kissinger. In case either of you were a fan.

BTW, Kissinger came out fairly early in support of the war, to the surprise of many.

Nice. I bet anything he's not at that Renaissance Pkwy address. Probably helping the anarchists organize their disruption of the next G7 summit, or some such.

Still, if I'm down that way, I may have to knock on the door. I was in the vicinity last Wednesday, as it happens.

Funny you should mention that. Are you familiar with Catlin's Folium Reservatum in which he detailed the spring ceremony of the Mandan "to call the buffalo"? He deemed it too unsettling for the tender sensibilities of his readers. Probably right too. No point in making people's most secret religious ceremonies a sport and scandal for the ignorant. Recording the ordeal ceremonies went quite far enough. It's available to scholars, though, and since the Mandan were decimated by smallpox a number of years later, it's the only record of the people in their glory.

If Saddam insane is NOT linked to 9/11, why is dubya (and by extention, his minions) so avid to go after him NOW?

Please don't hurt me Mr. Hussein. Here, here's my lunch money.

And why in such a manner as to virtually ASSURE his use of WMDs against our people?

He doesn't have them, at least not to the extent that he might have them. But give him time and you'll give him the opportunity.

It's madness.

Here's my brother's lunch money too.

Seems to me that Saddam is so far down the potential target list as to be laughable...

Wait a sec, you said that he was going to use WMD's against us the first time the US launches an attack. Which is it?

Besides, I keep hearing the rather Clintonesque terms, "regime change" and "liberate Iraq."

I don't think you're aware of the definition of Clintonesque.

Why not just take the time to find the right targets and deal with them?

Places, names, let's hear 'em.

However, WRT Saddam Insane, when you start to demonize someone the way Dubya has done,

Who are you, Molly Ivins in drag?

notice that you are coming and time to prepare a welcome for you.

So you're saying he should have attacked without warning? BTW, not likely with the massive troop movements required. He would have had a clue anyway. Let him suffer the water torture. More and more troops amassing on his border, day after day.

OK. How about this photo:

Do you happen to know the short movie shot about 1909 that showed these boats in action. Or similar boats of NW Coast Indians?

And if Kissinger is in favor of it (with all his ties to China), that is more reason to question it. Henry is still VERY high on my pet hate list for writing off over 2000 of my brothers in Vietnam, just so he could get his f*&king Nobel Peace Prize. Now he has some serious ties to China where there was a LOT of Anti-American propaganda made post-9/11 (over near the Afghan border). (Bobby MacNamara is another one high on my list... he KNEW we wouldn't win the war but got us into it anyway, the scumbag...)

Maybe you don't understand. Kissinger is historically the main proponent of your position. In fact, it is only the treaty ending Gulf War I that allows him to support it. Otherwise, he'd be a close ally of yours.

I don't know anything about MacNamara's position, but he's not exactly a great mind in foreign policy.

You have seen my position vis-a-vis the Insane one. I have no more to say to you if you don't want a civil discussion. So, have a good war. Are you going to be there? With all your avidness for it, one would surely hope so. You appear to be of an age where you can serve. When do you leave?

Apropos of AmerIndian stuff I saw "Code Talkers" last night. Somewhat corny but I liked it a lot. It captured the spirit of the times and didn't lay the PC nonsense on too heavy.

I'm a little old to serve. And I have a medical condition that would preclude me from serving. My younger brother is in the USAF reserves. My cousin's husband is active and will be shipped out soon.

But, of course, I fly -- frequently -- and I live in a high-rise apartment building. I'm more of a target than my brother would ever be.

It was good to see those guys get some recognition... they deserved it - they are, however, dying off now... Too bad... What a generation...

Are you referring to Wind Talkers? A lot of people didn't like it (yes, I'd have to agree it's a little corny), but I liked it quite a lot. I've read some about the Navajo Code Talkers (as you might imagine, I'm very interested in the PT of WWII), and I've seen a few documentaries about them; in spite of the Hollywood factor, there is a fair amount of historical accuracy in the movie.

But, they are still willing to strap it on. I'm sure you're aware of this (but just so others know): On their website, they issued a proclamation after 9/11, saying that they stand ready to serve their beloved country.

We're talking real men here, and serious patriots, you know? (Well, I know you know. : )

A large number of American Indians serve their country... This land, regardless of who is 'ruling' it, is still our land...
