I read about it recently. A younger member of the dictatorship apparently sees it as a way to consolidate his own power base and end up ruling as Syria's first democratic leader. Kind of a Syrian Ataturk, I guess.
We may see limited elections in Saudi Arabia in the next few years. Young Iranians are pressuring their government and favor our invasion of Iraq to put pressure on their government.
Well, freedom is a pretty seditious thing in totalitarian societies. I think Bush may have some substantial successes with it in the Middle East.
