Looks like the whole dang world is on alert. Tom Clancey(sp) couldn't come up with this stuff. Things are getting weirder by the moment. What's next? The aliens land or a comet strikes :-) Surreal times.

This whole world scene is looking like a Tom Clancy novel. Hope Pres. Ryan is up to it.

If you want to see a laughable turkey shoot, a Chinese attempt at an invasion of Taiwan would be it.
Preparations to do so would be obvious and would have to start months and months before an "attempt."

The thought has actually crossed my mind that the nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula may have been designed to distract from a prospective Chinese invasion of Taiwan. I think that a fairly low probability scenario, but one cannot discount the possibility.

What do you suppose they have been doing for the last 5 years?

"Taiwan and China, which split in 1949 at the end of a civil war, remain technically at war despite the commencement of civil contacts in 1987."
I am so sick of hearing this line from the media...every time I do it makes me wanna

I used to care. Now I don't. Aside from an short-term spike in semiconductor, LCD and memory costs, there would be little impact on the United States from a Chinese invasion. This is Taiwan's problem, not ours. Same goes for South Korea.

Got banned. Probably because he started shooting his mouth off about all the classified info he had access to as an aide to a DoD political appointee while trashing President Bush.

The rogue state, North Korea, may have been requested to nuke Taiwan for the reds.

Probably because he started shooting his mouth off about all the classified info Was he giving out classified info then or just saying he had seen it.

You might not realize that to many people you sound like a pompous a$$!
Why do you think there are problems in Taiwan and South Korea if not for U.S. interests?
To: Taiwan Bocks
Great. China gets Taiwan back. At least the cockroaches will be good Maoist cockroaches.
And then, a few days later, a nuclear detonation occurs in Beijing. The blast hypocenter is congruent with the DPRK embassy.
Taiwan probably has the bomb--they've had MORE than enough time to develop the thing.

Claiming he'd seen it, and then claiming it supported his trashing of Bush.

Not Tom Clancy - but Patrick Robinson.
I just finished The Shark Mutiny (in paperback) and China sets mines in the Gulf area - we send all our warships and it's a diversion to take over Taiwan. China is in kahoots with Iraq.
So close it's scary.
