You and I both know that the U.S. is not going to seize control of Iraq. We will do the same thing there we did in Afghanistan - assist them in starting down a road to progress.

We're going to be there a lot longer than we'll be in Afghanistan. What I said was we will seize CONTROL of the oil. We don't have to own it or even receive any of the proceeds, the mere fact that we can keep the spigot open deals the death blow to OPEC. Their collusive raison d'etre depends on complete cooperation among all oil producing nations.

With Russia doing their own thing and soon Iraqi oil coming under US control, the Saudi princes lose big.

I totally agree with you wayoverontheright. We will make sure that lots of oil will be pumped and that will result in an economic boom.

We will have troops stationed in Iraq for a long time and that will be a good thing.

We will put our puppet in control of Iraq, just as we have in Afghanistan, and just like in Afghanistan, the people will be immensely better off than they were under their previous regimes.

I was really impressed by the words of one former Soviet General who said that the '80s protests against intermediate range nukes were "essential to furthering Soviet interests".

A few years ago PBS (!!!!!!) broadcast a program consisting of interviews with ex-soviet leaders. Among other revelations: the SU funded western Europe anti-Pershing demos.

I still hope that Saddam will do the same and join Idi Amin for an ill-deserved retirement in Saudi Arabia. But I fear that all this marching will make him think that he still has a chance. And that could be more dangerous than any cowboy in the White House.

=========================================

Abso-freeping-lutely. I have been saying that for some time. The anti-Americans marching in the streets are going to gave the wrong message to Hussein. Hussein is going to believe they will cause this president to blink. He is going to be making the wrong decision and it will result in war and his demise. He should see that the game is up, take his 7 bil to Libya, and enjoy the rest of his life with his virgins in burqas.
