I'll vote for Bush for the next 30 years, if he does this ... :)

So, let me get this right....the very government that consistently moves to increase it's power over me wants to
DECREASE the amount of my money it takes?
Yeah, right!
Let's see...let me guess...hmmm...could it be a "Value Added Tax (VAT)" that would replace the income tax?

So all the money that I have spent a lifetime to save and which was taxed as income, will now be double-taxed as I spend it? You're killing me here. Will you exempt my savings?

Good news Good way to do it.
I would like to see TEXAS drop property tax on homes for school funding and use a state tax.
That way even the illegal pay tax.

Get rid of income tax? Good idea. Replace with consumption (sales) tax? Very bad idea. Sales taxes discourage sales, the very thing that strengthen our economy. Instead, all taxes should be collected by the states, or even by the counties and cities as they do in Virginia. Then, what the states don't need, they can send to the US government. The federal government wants to micromanage everything, so before this can ever come to pass, the Congress will have to pass several laws to close down all the departments that the federal government has NO BUSINESS running. They will never do that, though.

In related news, Hillary Klinton doesn't know whether to sh-t or go blind.

opponents argue, a consumption tax is "regressive" in that the same rates apply to rich and poor people alikeBoo-hoo. Where have I heard this whine "UNFAIR!" before? HMMMMmmmm...
Say you want to attend a baseball game. The seats you want are $35. No matter how much or how little money you earn, that seat will still cost you $35. If you can't afford that, you have 2 choices: Don't attend the game, or purchase a $15 bleacher seat.
That's why a consumption tax is NOT unfair to the "poor" (usually spendthrifts). If they don't SPEND, they don't PAY.
To: Bigun
Drop the income tax, forget the consumption tax, and finance the legitmate functions of government with levies and tariffs.
While we're at it, dump Medicare and Medicaid, and scratch any prescription drug boondoggles. Erase the departments of Health anbd Human Services, Energy, and Education and abolish unfunded mandates and matching fund money pits.

Awesome that it was even mentioned.
Best idea around.
The opposition will be enormous.
I don't WANT some big shot rich guy thinking he owns more of the country than I do just because he pays a higher percentage of taxes than I do. Make it an equal percent.
If it's good enough for God (10%) then an equal percent is fair everywhere else.

At least a tax on consumption would force EVERYONE (expecially illegal immigrants) to pay something toward the expenses involved in running and defending the country. As it is, too many people get off scott free. Maybe they wouldn't demand so much in social services if the money came out of their pockets too.

If Bush can pull this one off, it would be, on the domestic level, comparable to the fall of the Berlin wall.

OMG. Please be true. This would make the Republicans a virtually permanent majority party, if it were to pass.

The problem I am worried about, has anyone noticed that Social Security and Medicare taxes on our income have increased over 200% over the last ten years? I remember when my income tax out paced these deductions over 200%. I would like to see an end to income tax, but I see a huge increase in these deductions along with a national sales tax.
Doesn't the Federal Government dip into these pools of money for what ever pet project they are trying to fund?
The best way to lower Medicare is to enact tort reform.

Sounds good to me. I'm for a consumption tax with NO exceptions. Simple and fair. Doesn't penalize saving and investing, rewards productivity. Do it! (RATs will say it's "unfair to the poor." They can bite it.)
