From a modern medical text book:
To: Mr. Silverback
Ben Nelson (D, Nebraska) says he is pro-life, and I'm 90% sure he'll vote for cloture. Are there eight others that are pro-life, or at least leaning that way?
To: Mr. Silverback
"This is the first test of the filibuster strategy -- if we can block this vote, we will be sending a strong message to President Bush . . ."And when your strategery fails, you'll also be sending a strong message to President Bush and America about how irrelevant your disgusting group of baby killers have become.
To: Mr. Silverback
Did Daschle ever make that announcement about Estrada that he was supposed to make at 1:30 PM yesterday?
To: aristeides
He never made the 1:30 announcement - They plan to make a statement after lunch meeting tomorrow.

Ben Nelson (D, Nebraska) says he is pro-life, and I'm 90% sure he'll vote for cloture. Are there eight others that are pro-life, or at least leaning that way? You can probably count on Zell Miller, maybe one or two more Southern Democrats (Breaux?)
If Frist forces them to actually filibuster, it probably won't take long to get to 60 votes for cloture. These guys won't have the stomache for 24-hour a day talking for days and weeks on end...
To: Mr. Silverback
Already Freeped, but I added the idea someone submitted that the Senators break the Gentleman's filibuster agreement to not actually have to talk. Don't you imagine many of the Senators will not want to look ridiculous by talking for hours....
To: Mr. Silverback
The Republicans have to get the word out to the Hispanic community , how the Dems are tryinhg to block the nomination of this greast man.Thw Hispanic vote is huge.
To: richardtavor
senators for cloture likely include: Nelson (NE), Breaux, Zell, Hollings, Dorgan, Johnson (SD), Pryor (recently elected "pro-life"), Lincoln, and perhaps Landreiu "pro-life" or some other Dem Senator up in '04.

I say make them filibuster, and televise it, particularly the last hours of the filibuster when they are reduced to reading Dr. Seuss books and peeing behind a 'curtain' of coats held up by their aides.

Honorable Senator Rick Santorum
I urge you to support the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. There should be no filibuster against this well-qualified nominee, but if a filibuster begins, I urge you to vote for cloture. Please write to inform me how you will vote on the Estrada nomination.
Thank you for all you do for Pennsylvania and America!
Respectfully yours,
Your Name

Realistically, there's no way Dems will spend the capital it will take to block Estrada. They do not want commercials before the '04 election telling his story and explaining how the Dems blocked him. That being said, we should fight for his confirmation, because getting 60 votes sends W and the Dems a message that conservatives can and will get confirmed.

What better viewing than the Libs blocking the Senate during a war? They're making the Repubs' 2004 campaign ads for them...

Your graphic was accurate and of course absolutely disgusting. I remember seeing the sonogram of my son at 18 weeks and it was one of the greatest joys in my life. He was a little guy sucking his thumb, kicking, rolling - a human worthy of all the portection of the weak a humane, civilized society can muster. I'm appalled at the thought of him or any other helpless infant being ripped limb from limb.
I am very glad that the abortion/murder issue appears slowly turning toward life, thanks to sonograms and the Pro-Life movement, thank God.
