Please to remember Mr President, that:
Those who receive vast sums of money from the USA, so very often spew abuse and hatred at their benefactors later.
My own observation of human beings who receive monies- any situation - an indigent relative, a regular borrower (friend), is this: If, and when the monies are cut off, the former recipient is more outraged at the former benefactor, than they are at those who told them to "go fly a kite".

To those who ask "why use taxpayer funds":
1) Africa is probably the ONLY place where AIDS education will be effective. At present, many African men believe that having sex with a virgin will cure AIDS.
2) If Bush does this on his own, WITHOUT United Nations help, it only further demonstrates the irrelevancy of the UN.
3) Africans are generally unaligned with any major faction (Communism, the West, Muslim countries). If Bush can get these millions of peoples to look favorably on the United States it will only help to stop the spread of Islam and Communism.
4) At present, cheap labor manufacturing is performed in China. Wouldn't it be better to have African countries take away what the Chinese are doing? It can't be done if they're too sick to work.

Provided it can also add the benefit of saving lives here at home, let'er rip!(Now, if this is just window-dressing, which won't have any domestic benefit, then it's a mistake...)

That's funny, I did not know that HIV was caused by lack of American dollars.
And not a dime of this will go to the patients.

I was suprised by this and am supportive of spending money in this fashion. Bush is indeed compassionate.
On the other hand I am a lot less convinced about the hydrogen car proposal, but I suppose you have to start somewhere.

From the article:
"President Bush, under fire from AIDS groups for what they call his neglect of the epidemic, asked Congress Tuesday to triple AIDS spending in Africa and Haiti to $15 billion over five years."
I hope the answer from congress is:
Dear Mr. President,
Shove it
...but it won't be.
If they didn't pander before, they will now, because now they've got Bush as cover for this idiotic proposal.
This stinks, and I have to believe that Rove, the political hack who supervises Bush, is responsible for this. Rove cares nothing about right or wrong. All he cares about is political manipulation in order to win elections, period, no matter what the cost in national treasure and principle. He is no different from Carvile, and sadly, W is falling for it.

Bush Asks for $15 Billion to Fight AIDS in Africa (It's unprecedented and will save lives) ????????
Excuse me, what Africa has ever done to save lives in US?
What Europe has ever done to save lives in US?
What Asia has ever done to save lives in US?
What the rest of the world has ever done to save lives in US?
N O T H I N G
But inspite of the fact that 100000's of American lives was sacrificed and lost in the last 100 years to defend and protect freedom around this lousy world in the wars we did not start and have no business to be in, we are being told that most of the world despises and loaths US, so F*ck them all
LETS START TO SAVE SOME LIVES IN OUR COUNTRY, charity begins at home.

If saving lives is paramount, then those infected, must be confined, otherwise this policy will cause more to die. Longer life spans for carriers, is not a good policy, especially for those sexually active. I would not advocate eliminating those that are infected, but the second best position, is to let nature take its course.
I believe a vast majority of those said to be HIV+, are dying from common diseases, and the HIV is not really a factor though.

And where in the US Constitution is the federal government authorized to spend money on this?

And how much of that $15 BILLION will end up in Robert Mugabe's numbered bank account in Switzerland?

Personally, I don't want to see one more thin American dime invested in any way in that s**thole known as Africa.
To: TLBSHOW
Sorry, Mr. President, I don't support you on this. We have urgent problems at home that need to be solved first. AIDS is a disease caused by behavior. We are not responsible for the actions caused by behaviors in Africa.
How about lowering the costs of prescription drugs in the US?
