What we are seeing is a dangerous development among conservatives. I am almost convinced that two things are combining that need to be addressed - or at least called. There is a growing "Suslov wing" of conservatism, and it's developing a nasty streak that includes attacks on any who disagree with their definition of conservatism. There also is that "tabloid conservatism" some others use.

Sometimes, the shortest distance between two points is a Great Circle. Intervening on behalf of the students, and literally having a case that will cite previous cases as precedent for gutting the current perversion of affirmative action is a BIG deal.

The fact is, when this case is done, we will see at worst, a shift to performance-based systems like those in Florida and Texas. That is NOT a bad thing. And the fact that the speech boiled down to "two wrongs don't make a right" is also quite good.

I also read the briefs - they're limited, as fightinJAG pointed out elsewhere on this thread - but when you look at the speech, you know what this administration will do if the right case is brought before the Supreme Court. This administration's taken some major risks as it is - you can bet the race-hustlers will be going all-out over this.

The question is, are conservatives going to put foot to left-wing butt, or are we going to leave Bush hanging out to dry because the briefs were not everything we wanted? I'm going to put foot to left-wing butt - and I may start getting ready to also put foot to "Suslov conservative" butt should THAT be needed.

Even if it is limited to Michigan, what happens is other judges will look at how SCOTUS decided it - reversals make judges look bad, you see - and as such, they will make their calls based on the ruling.

If you want to take a good look into Rush's playbook, Just tune in long enough to see what his rant for the day is and keep track for three weeks. You will find out that he plays the entire field. He is no dummie, He knows how to draw the listeners.

Rush has one of the best analytical minds there is, But he also knows what's best for Rush. Afterall he is an entertainer, It's not like he's looking for votes, he's looking for ratings. Stiring the pot is what gets him the ratings and the money rolling in.
