GPS jammer = nice, fat target for a HARM....
To: honway
I don't think this is going to work as well as some people fear. This problem has been anticipated and countermeasures are already underway.

I suspect our missles use super secret satellites (remember the space shuttle) and super secret non jamming fequencies.

DR. ANTONOV SAID THAT HE HAS ALREADY RECENTLY MARKETED THE JAMMER IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND SAID HE HAS SEVERAL POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS THERE. Great. When was it the FAA was going to approve GPS IFR approaches?
Shades of Die Hard II (or was it III?)!
I'll never look at my moving-map GPS the same... *sigh*

GPS jammer = nice, fat target for a HARM.... Yep, sounds like whoever bought these were tricked into thinking it would help them avoid missle attacks. Unfortunately this was probably a secret plan to get these kooks to advertise their location ( target).

GPS jammer = nice, fat target for a HARM.... True. IF someone's thought of designing a HARM for those frequencies. Somehow, I doubt it.

maybe not fat... a very weak signal can compromise GPS coverage over a large area... I know this from personal experience...

Our GPS-guided bombs also have internal navigation system (INS) which cannot be jammed. If jamming of the GPS takes place, the guidance system remembers its last GPS fix and guides the bomb to target. CEP increases, but not by much. This is not a big deal.

... SUCCESSFULLY JAMMED A DEVICE WITH P-CODE CAPABILITY. WHEN THE RO ASKED FOR MORE DETAIL ON THIS, DR. ANTONOV WOULD NOT ELABORATE.And therein lies the bravo sierra. He's proven he can jam the commercial devices, but the spread spectrum military signal embedded, well he did it, but he can't tell you about it or he'd have to kill ya!! HA!
I see several other problems...(1) JDAM's, for example, will switch over to a less accurate inertial guidance system if they are jammed, and though not as accurate, at worst they will make a big boom nearby. (2) a jammer on the ground has to overpower the signal from space. directional GPS antennas on ordnance are usually kept by the control fins/system ON TOP of the bomb missile, naturally pointed away from the ground interference, (3) to overpower the staellites, you've got to have enough power that, like RoughDoberman said, sticks out like a sore thumb. Every other day almost we see what happens in the no-fly zone when a doomed Iraqi tech turns on a radar transmitter. 'E goes BOOM!

THE 4-WATT JAMMER JAMS CIVILIAN AND MILITARY FREQUENCIES OF GPS AND GLONASS UP TO A RANGE OF 200 KM. gotta be a mis-type. only 4 WATTS
Someone explain how you can get 200KM range with 4 watts and 5-watt amatuer radios, and 800MHZ radios get only like 4 miles?

GPS frequency hopping, anti-radation missile home on jam, ALQ-137,ALQ-99, Laser Guided Bombs... many was to defeat this.
No need to worry.
