here on the delmarva penninsula, a poor woman and family were accosted by six "bounty hunters" looking for a fugitive. they ransacked her house wearing badges that said officer, or agent and terrorized her family...
they told her they could do what the police were unable to do, which was to break in without a warrant...
the police did nothing saying they were within the law.

Did I goof?
You ask that question of the wrong guy.
Everything about computers and cyberspace is enough to daze and confuse almost anyone.
I just noticed the FreeRepublic editor accepted the address you typed (bang_list), so I did what I always do and entered that address as a search under poster and noticed there were no posts.
I then entered STAR bang_list(*bang_list) and your contribution was not there either.
Then, out of curiosity I typed various forms of bang_list under a title search and came up with this: Click here-I guess this is the orginal bang list post
I have yet to find where your particular address landed.
Remember also people insert various forms of bang_list into key word indexes, so you could probably develop an interesting search using that technique.
Hope this helps,
Best regards

The most amazing part of this story is that it happened in Baltimore. I'm not amazed that the police botched the raid, and I'm not amazed that they appear (to me) to have fabricated the finding of drugs. I'm amazed that the prosecutor dropped the charges. I'm even more amazed that the homeowner was alive, after the raid, to be charged.
To: Leisler
Baltimore prosecutors today dropped attempted murder and first-degree assault charges against a man who shot four police detectives during a November drug raid, saying they believe Lewis S. Cauthorne acted in self-defense when he wounded the officers as they barged into his home. This is exactly what needs to happen to end the plague of black pajama ninja wannabe Gestapo agents who break into innocent Americans homes under the guise of a "drug bust".
If you're a true American sitting on a jury on one of these cases ... Vote for aquittal. If you're a judge find ... the home protector innocent. If you're a lawyer ... take the case for free.

I wouldn't stay around. The cops you can bet are saying "this ain't over." While I do agree with you prima facie, why on earth would they roll over so totally? They're not even charging him with discharge in a residential area. SOMETHING else is going on there.

police are often hesitant to knock and tell residents that they are police officersNot too swift. Actually, the real problem is the wide spread proliferation of firearms. If the homeowner hadn't been armed, no one would have been shot. /Sarcasm

"Nowadays every little po-dunk town thinks they need a "swat" team because they like all the neato toys and the black jumpsuits."
And the reality is that most every town of 50,000 or more has such a team and military attack gear. Paid for by the feds.
This is truly the "standing army" our founders feared.

Loved the excerpt.
(And you should seriously put a "spoiler alert" for those of who want to read your novel in sequence.)
Query: wouldn't the tactical light pressure switch be on the right side, activated by the left hand fingertips, like on my Surefire forearm on a shotgun?
To: Leisler
Detectives are often worried about giving drug dealers time to flush drugs down toilets This excuse is a crock. Taking a water sample from a toilet and determining whether some substance was recently flushed therein is a trivial problem of chemical forensics.

>>Given the shooting skills exhibited I suspect that what is operative here is top to bottom incompetence. They didn't think to get their stories correct and synchronized when things went "wrong."<<
Unlike the LAPD. . .getting their stories straight and synchronized within mere moments after multiple murders is quite an accomplishment---just ask OJ.

Yessir. This is important. Thanks for the ping. This happened in anti-gun Maryland!
The good news is that no charges were filed.
The bad news is that the homeowner spent 3 months in jail and probably lost his job and several friends. He likely gained an STD (hopefully not AIDS), if what Project Exile and Kalifornia AG Lockyer (sp?) tell us is correct.
The fact that the JBT's didn't file charges is definitely a step in the right direction, but there is still a lot of "unfinished business" that should manifest itself in a ma$$ive lawsuit for unlawful imprisonment.

Acting Police Commissioner John McEntee said today he opposed the decision by prosecutors. "I would have liked to have seen all available charges prosecuted," he said. Yeah, I bet you would, arsehole. Your thugs got EXACTLY what they deserved.
