I read about this earlier this afternoon. I saw the headline days before, but didn't read the details.
Thanks for the flag.

I incorporated the JBTs shoot the dogs theme into my novel.
*******************************************************************
Ranya was sitting cross legged a yard from her dog, staring across the field to the smoldering wreckage and ashes of her house and the silent pine woods beyond. Lieutenant Mosby crouched by her and put the silver cross into her hand. He had had to clip the chain to remove it from her father's burnt body.
Ranya, this fellow volunteered to help you bury your dog. She said nothing, and after a few moments Mosby left them to return to his business. Brad stood off a little to the side with his shovel and Mosbys gray army blanket. After an uncomfortable minute she asked who are you?
Im just the guy who had the shovel. My name is Brad Fallon.
What are you doing here?
I knew your dad, as a customer I mean. He was working on a rifle for me.
Looks like your rifle got burned up.
It doesnt matter.
What a great dog. I raised him from a puppy, he was nine years old, there was never a better dog. We named him Armalite like the rifles, because he was skinny and black and fast. He was the best Dobie there ever was, and he died trying to defend my father. I guess you cant ask for more in a dog. She began to weep again.
Im sorry. Im real sorry about all this.
Another pause, another deep breath, and she said
Yeah.
Looks like he was shot right through. It would have been quick anyway.
She said Thats what they do. They shoot the dogs first.

I figured she got out of the closet somehow. Via the attic scuttle?

I wonder if they'll be incorporating the video into one of those "Come visit Tennessee" tourism commercials I keep seeing on TV.

Well, there are now 8 threads on FR about this. The world is pissed. But I did finally get through and asked the mayor this:
"To the honorable Mayor or whoever is in charge,
Instead of allowing your "officers" to make the mistake of shooting a family pet, why don't you build a gulag, run the people down there and shoot and bury the bodies next time. I mean hell, shooting pet dogs and arresting innocent people while on video tape is just plain stupid. Do you honestly think Mao, Castro, Pol-Pot, Stalin and Hitler would keep such detailed records? Well, maybe they would. Enjoy your sadistic videos, I'll take the long way around your Algore butt kissing facist Gestapo state when travelling that way in the future.
Sincerely, A disgusted, and highly decorated, American
