Re #3

As a general rule, global stability is in our national interest, and it's possible that the presence of our troops contributes to stability…. Another point to consider is that, once we leave, it might be hard to reverse the process if we need to in the future.

I agree wholeheartedly. EXCELLENT post.

If you want to see your troops in Poland, then tell it your soldiers! I´m sure they´d like to hear to live in a land which has problems with water supply and where the highways are in bad conditions. They´d like to live in a country where the crime rate is significant higher...

Here are the background notes about both countries, released by the State Department.

You´d have to pay much money to get your own bases acceptable.- And why? Because you´d like to see your forces some 300 miles more in the East? Your servicemen and -women will thank you.

The quickest way to discredit the Dems would be to allow them to enact their agenda with no one else to blame it on. Now THAT would be an unmitigated disaster, and I would die before allowing it to happen, but if it did it woould be most satisfying to see them realize that Ayn Rand was right after all. God, I love that book - ATlas Shrugged for those who don't know. The feeling I get when reading that is the feeling I am talking about.

Let South Korea blow "sunshine policy" at North Korea all they want. Then when North Korea comes across the border to loot, the only way communism can survive, sit back with a beer and watch, saying "I told you so."

I also think we should tell Europe to butt out. They get to have it both ways - criticize us, tehn join in to avoid irrelevancy and to share in the glory when it turns out we were right all along. Screw 'em.

Again, for some posters, I am not for abandoning strategic military bases. I am simply saying that South Korea is not a strategic advantage, having Japan, Guam, and other bases right there. We have options that will allow us to respond to the new threats. It is no longer in our interests to spend lives and money containing some old threats - like North Korea. Let them invade the South, and see if the Frogs or the UN want to do anything about it, with out us.
