What's even more troubling is that some of the lies about this case come from "conservative" commentators. We like to think of ourselves as more honest than the media, but that's not always true.

An article I read said Bush also is considering a middle of the road brief, in which he supports AA in principle, but not when it discriminates with quotas. I doubt he would file a brief completely against AA. I am betting that it is this middle-of-the-road option vs. no involvement at the WH right now. I am thinking the middle-of-the-road brief will win out in the end.

It is a given all over Washington that Bush will elevate Scalia to chief justice with the Rehnquist retirement. Bush loves Scalia. Gonzales will backfill Scalia.

Interesting but I'd be a little hesitant to get totally dedicated to that bandwagon. President Bush has known to keep things close to the vest. In addition there have been 16 Chief Justices of which only three have been elevated to that position from their position as a sitting Associate Justice. But it would be nice if it were to happen.

Your rant against the mythical 'one-issue' voter is a very old and very tiresome pro-abortion smear tactic, and marks you as someone who is hostile to pro-lifers.

Why do you despise folks who despise abortion?

Bush has publicly signaled his admiration for Scalia on many occasions, while running for president and since.

I would bet my house that if Rehnquist retires, Scalia will get the nod from Bush. It's a no-brainer.

LOL........ I don't see that anywhere in his post. But see he calls it like he sees it. Pretty much like you call it like you see it when you don't get money from Frist, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did elevate Scalia, but by the same token I'd not be surprised if he didn't.

I personally have always favored the elevation of Scalia...he is a truly great man.

But I have heard arguments in favor of Justice Thomas getting the nod, simply because he is much younger than Scalia, and would be CJ for much longer.

The idea kinda grows on a guy, especially when you muse about how crazy that appointment would make the RATS! ;-)

Actually, he voted that no more evidence was needed, and that the girl had in fact established that she did not need to notify her parents; he did not send the case back for further hearings.

You're right. They sent it back the first time it reached the court, and affirmed the new trial court ruling that granted the bypass in this final ruling.

Where did Dog Gone say that?

One-issue voters are good at putting words in other people's mouths. I've noticed that.

And, they will use their "one issue" to club other conservatives over the head, threatening to not vote, or vote for the opposition (THAT ONE is a laugh!).

I don't care what the "one issue" is; a single issue voter is a political crybaby.

The one-issue voter thing is so trite and false. If those who used that tactic were honest, they would simply admit that it bugs them that others place more importance on the abortion issue than they do.

Wake up. Bush is not going to sacrifice precious political capital by means of a replay of the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas saga. To do so would be politically insane.

Scalia will get the nod. He is tremendously uncontroversial and was unanimously confirmed in 1986. RATS cannot possibly repudiate their prior acquiesence.

Then stop belittling those who care deeply about the issue.

I've read that Thomas doesn't have the stomach for another confirmation hearing.

I never said I believed it would happen, or that I support it...in fact I said exactly the opposite. It was simply interesting speculation.

That's probably accurate. Who can blame him.

There are one issue voters that post here and tell you up front that if this or that doesn't got their way they are sitting it out or are voting for someone else. I'm sorry but I don't by that as a reasonable excuse as normally there are only two viable parties or potential winners in most contest. One or the other has to be somewhat better toward getting some or most things a person is in favor of.

I'm going to point out the truth when those who care deeply about the issue choose not to. So shoot me.

Well, "all-or-nothing" gets the single-issue voter nothing more often than not.

I'd rather get something.
