It doesn't have to be that big of a line, you can just have a small leak go undetected for a while.

When I was a kid, we lived in a neighborhood where two good-sized suburban houses (1800sf +/-) were *leveled* due to an underground gas leak, and a third damaged such that it had to be leveled, three dead. We lived about a 1/2 mile away. Insulation fell out of the sky like snow.

Big time. The Germans invested good money in Arafat's PA terrorists and have publicly thrown Israel to the wolves. Their appeasement makes them safe from terrorism, right? Guess again, Germany. Two world wars and these 4th Reich EU clowns still don't get it.

That's right. A slow gas leak will build up and eventually find an ignition source. When that happens, the pocket of gas that has built up over times makes a real large kaboom.

This happens eight to ten times a year in Germany. The interesting thing is that its always in major cities. You rarely hear of an event like this in small towns. Always makes one wonder if someone wants to get even and they cut the pump in the basement on purpose. Just a small cut and 5 hours...and you got everything you need to blow the whole building up.

Halle lies in the former East Germany. The infrastructure (gas lines, meters, etc) may still not be up to speed in that area.

Don't forget that Germany has a very large mix of ethnic minorities working in that country nowadays. I wouldn't be surprised if one group of minorities don't like another one and they found a very easy way to attack that other group.

Back in 1968, Richmond, Indiana lost an entire city block to a gas exploion. It happens.

And where did many of the 9-11 terrorists live before coming to the US? Why, if I remember correctly, it was GERMANY.I wonder who the real moron was in the FBI? The agent who wrote the memo saying it was suspicious that so many middle easterners were taking flying lessons. Nah, no way there could be any terrorist involvment in this explosion.
