As someone who knows what it's like to have a mother reject her, I will not be so quick to blame Laura. We do not know what went into the estrangement. Don't jump to conclusions.

Agreed--I had a very rocky relationship with my mother as well. However, cannot imagine not having any contact with her for 14 years--but we don't have all the facts and should not rush to judgement.

Sorry for "rubbing you the wrong way." Yes, my husband and I suffer, daily, the loss of a close family member through estrangement and the pain is vicious and unrelenting....especially at Christmas. First hand, I recognize when a party just doesn't care and their side is the only side. And by the way, your remarks just rubbed me the wrong way too but I don't expect an apology.
