"Wise up"

I guess I should have indicated that this was sarcasm.

Probably should have. Lots out there actually think that the police can protect them.

"Lots out there actually think that the police can protect them."

I suffer no such illusions. In fact, although there exceptions, I would just as soon have the cops stay out of the way until the dust settles. Then they can come in and do the paperwork.

What typically happens with a false alarm is the property owner get's a pass on the first, or infrequent alarm and a huge bill for regular false alarms.

It can be fairly substancial.

It's not always prudent to just write an alarm off as false or a systems malfunction however. Many professional car thieves would intentionally trip the alarm till the owner, convinced that it was defective simply turned it off.

One more good reason to keep weapons for self-defense, IMO.

I am obliquely familiar with the Wisconsin case. The merit of this case came not from the ruling which, undoubtedly, is true but rather from the publicity shined on the Winnebago SS department which failed miserably to protect this child. The county prevailed on the constitutional issue but clearly lost on all other counts.

There are tons of private security services here. Unfortunately, they are usually staffed by $8.00 per hour weenies who's only job it is to call the police!!

You get what you pay for.

The quality rises with the pay rate, just like in any other job. If neurosurgery were paying $8.00 per hour, who would go to medical school?

Damn straight! No 911 call is going to save you if your life is threatened.

The cops are too busy collecting revenue from speeders.

Catching criminal scum is an expenditure of funds... it doesn't pay.

Chief Wiggins: "I didn't say the government couldn't hurt you. I said it couldn't protect you." This is the best definition of government I have ever run across.
