You're way behind the curve dude. The conversation has already taken place. Lott grew some balls and told President Bush that he wasn't resigning for being something he's not.

Then Bush spanked him and Lott stood up and took his beating in public. But, its not enough for you.

I didn't think Lott was a racist until yesterday. He would not say that what he thought 40 years ago was wrong, and he ducked the question on his fraternity activities. He is leaving whether he wants to or not. Be patient.

The inescapable fact is not that Lott is a racist, it's that on the very face his breathtakingly ill-considered remarks, the plainest sense was that he was paying homage to Strom Thrumond's segregationist campaign of 1948.

When someone says, "I'm gonna kill him," the plainest sense is that he intends murder, though an examination of context might inform us otherwise.

Words mean things, and Lott's words mean he is through as Majority Leader.

Everyone is forgetting the one principle for which Lott will stand firm-his own polical power. Lott can threaten to resign from the senate, setting in motion events culminating in a rat senate majority. He has W by the short hairs.
