Absolutely!!. We have some serious problems in this country - very serious. We are targets of terrorists, we have open borders, we have people out of jobs, we have CHina making rumbling noises, we are supposedly headed for war with Iraq, N. Korea has about to erupt and we are giving air time to this? No wonder---
Were YOU offended by his remarks? Did his remarks HURT YOU? Did you feel a need for him to apologize to YOU and to ask YOU for forgiveness?
Or were his remarks just incredibly stupid? And isn't that what this is about? Its not about forgiveness, its about being qualified for the job. I can understand if Lott is as dumb as a rock. What I can't understand is this pathetic cry by his supporters for him to lead us into the new century. He's not a leader. He's a buffoon.
As long as he's coming to the door, tell him you'll accept his apology if he kicks in a few bucks to prove his sincerity. Since he's groveling, you might as well hit him up for some cash :-).
He doesn't have to win over racist blacks. He has to win over reasonable people of all colors who are on the fence. And he's on the way to doing that.
You're absolutely right. This whole dust up is totally ludicrous. I'm no Trent Lott fan, but this is one molehill that should have been squashed immediately.
The Dems have so little to offer that gets them TV time, they pounced on this like white on rice. It should have been stonewalled from the get go and it would have been yesterday's news in a heartbeat.
Bush won't do that. He sees that Lott will weather the worst the race pimps can throw at the GOP.
Most will see it as a desperate attempt at damage control and nothing more.
Exactly. I think perhaps Mississippi and the rest of us would do better with a vacant seat than a Vacant Lott.
Yeah, he's won the GOP lots of new friends in the last few days. /extreme sarcasm
Sorry man, but I can't say I've ever heard more blatant wishful thinking.
Yeah, just a bit...
Even though I'd always regarded Lott as a totally ineffective "Leader" of the GOP, I've been supportive throughout all of this BS smear campaign out of principle...However...
If Lott's survived this firestorm just to be a Democratic/Black Caucus patsy and thus a GOP eunuch, as are the early indications, I may have to change my mind about him. If so, should Dubya and the Pubs jettison him soon?
What say you?
By the way, is there a part in all this for Judge Wapner, or Judge Judy?
And he's apologized for them. He'll apologize for them some more.
He said "I will not step down for something I'm not."
Good for him. He may decide to let the GOP Senate have another vote on him for Leader, but under no circumstances should he allow the race pimps, the I-hate-Trent-Lott-because-of-impeachment conservatives, or the Wall Street Journal Editorial Page force him out of office.
His problem has never been the race pimps. They can be handled easily by a secure, capable politician...like George W. Bush, for example.
His problem is that the majority of rank and file members of his own party wince whenever his face pops up on the tube.
Yesterday couldn't be soon enough.
Hardly. If the country wants tax cuts, and we don't get tax cuts, the Democrats can show pictures of Trent Lott all they want. They will lose seats.
George W. Bush is the face of the Republican party. The country likes George W. Bush. If George W. Bush has confidence in Trent Lott, backs Trent Lott, and says so, over and over, the country will ignore the continued cries of "racism" from the Democrats.
This is a new world, guys. The GOP wasn't supposed to pick up seats on Nov. 5, but it did.
If the economy's humming along and Hussein is gone, the race card won't work.
