Anyone ever give a thought to eliminating SSNs?

all those fraudulent social security #s are raking in big cash for the government coffers.

Of course that doesn't take into account what the illegals will do when they retire, especially those using stolen SSNs because they'll stay here and need Medicaid and SSI. That's one big flaw in the thinking that immigrants will save Social Security because of course they'll retire at some point and demand their fair share ---plus they are less likely than Americans to have private retirement plans or private health insurance going. They also won't leave their own elderly behind which is why in this part of the country, the elderly are one of the largest age group coming in, they may not get Social Security but they easily get on SSI which sometime gives a bigger check.

We should eliminate Social Security ---at least phase it out and end all the government handout programs. They are much of the problem because they draw the wrong kind of immigrant and people forget that with the European immigrants, one-third returned home to Europe in a short time because they weren't prepared for life in this country but that was before welfare.

Agreed. The Europeans built this nation, but the latest wave of immigrants will destroy it. My problem is that I am young enough that I will likely live to see it.

Seattle area. An international stewpot if ever there was one.

Oh. I knew Seattle was the home of Microsoft and other computer and e-biz (amazon?). Otherwise, I knew of it only as the place where police Chief Gil Kerlikowske ordered his police to stand down and watch, while a racist, black mob assaulted and robbed whites, and while they stomped a white civilian to death, when he, in lieu of police, went to the aid of a little white woman who was getting stomped on.

Yep that's us, Seattle, ever so politically correct - Mecca West. By the way, we Freepers call that police chief "Girley-cowski." Have to wonder how he stays upright, considering he has no backbone.

I've spent years enrolling employees in voluntary benefits, which means going to different companies and speaking individually with each employee about their benefit needs and options. I noticed that a great many of the Hispanic guys, though they will tell you they are married, will not enroll their spouses and children in health or dental plans, because they are not legally married. The guy works, the wife and children are on welfare, getting medical benefits from the State. That brings their family income way up and the wife can stay home with the kids. Also, the guys sometimes have more than one social security #, one to work with and one to collect worker's compensation on somewhere els. Illegal immigrants have our system down better than we do. I think they give classes on it in Mexico. All the social security #s start with a 6.

I think once you start buying one fraudulent and/or stolen Social Security number and you realize how easy it is to get by with that crime and what having the documents can do for you, it would be too tempting to keep on buying identities. When one gets in trouble just stop using it, buy another to replace it. They caught a woman here shoplifting and found 4 identifications on her, she was using all 4 to collect welfare benefits in 3 different states. She had property she had been buying but putting in a boyfriend's name, she had bank accounts and the works. She knew the system very well ---and that was without ever having learned English ----she jumped bail which she put up by selling some of that land and she's back in Mexico now. I'm sure she'll be back soon enough.

Stopping this should be our government's #1 priority. That would accomplish 2 goals, help the economy of the States and the country and greatly reduce terrorist threats. Seal the borders and go after every illegal here, throw them out and start over with a new immigration policy.

I agree except not with going after every single illegal here because I think that would be very difficult, it would mean certain things that most of us wouldn't like to see, and it wouldn't be that necessary.

I think they can deport illegals trying to access government programs especially those trying to use hospitals but who never intend to pay their own bills, all criminals especially those dealing in documentation fraud ---and that wouldn't be that difficult because they have ways to verify the Social Security number database ---for one they can look for duplicate numbers, numbers that are in use of deceased citizens, and all fraudulent numbers. They can deport them easily when they commit crimes like DWI and driving without insurance, but I would be opposed to door-to-door searches and I don't really like roadblocks and getting stopped on the street and asked to show papers.
