"Lott is just making the left and media's dirty work easier. No matter what hapens good or bad they are going the keep the race issues wide open."

We have to counter by ridiculing the Left's hypocracy regarding ANY morality...

Why in the world hasn't Dubya ordered Ashcroft to investigate Bill AND Hillary Clinton for a billion and one reasons? Let's get out the big guns and if they want to get cute.

"I think we would win the PR battle if Lott resigned -- there are bigger battles to fight than over this guy."

In a sense I agree with you. IMO Lott just can't resign over this. It's too petty an issue. Really...

I prefered Lott to resign years ago. Whereas he's totally inept, ineffective, and lacking a set, it'd make far better sense to have him merely step down as GOP Majority Leader as a "concession."

If a hypothetical Senate Majority Leader from the South made a speech, at the birthday party of another hypothetical Senator who had a history of being a former segregationist, and a good deal of even that person's supporters say it at least sounded possibly racist, and you don't clarify what you said,

(hypothetically of course...)

And minority voters who are already skeptical of a party's racial intentions question what was said, and get no clear answer...

(hypothetically of course...)

Can that person be said to be qualified for his position?

>>It's too petty an issue.<<

I respectfully disagree. Percieved racism (rightly or wrongly)may be a very, very big issue to potential black voters, who might otherwise vote Republican.

Lott is doing damage to my party.

That's what's funny about this whole thing -- I haven't seen anyone on this board defending the guy. The argument is simply between folks who want him to step down now and people who would love to see him go but just can't stomach the thought of giving the leftist totalitarians any satisfaction. Not quite a vote of confidence for our erstwhile majority leader, eh? Heh.

>but it may be time for new leadership.<

You maybe right. I just have a problem with selective outrage.

You put it in a nutshell :-)

"Might"?? 92% of the blacks would still vote Democratic had we been able to dig up Abe Lincoln for another go at it...

The hue and cry of "racism" whether perceived and feigned is the Democrats exclusive political version of a 'Scarlet Letter' -- a Republican must always wear it.

With all due respect, I see a desperate party inventing yet another phony issue. The only way Lott's comment "damages" the GOP is if they react as though Lott actually did use the "N" word (like some idiot fron the other party) and a call for renewed slavery.

I have a huge problem with selective outrage as well. The first thing I thought of was Robert Byrd's recent blantantly bigoted statement in front of Tim Russert, using the the "n" word. The New Yorkt Times saw fit that not a single story covered it.

How well I know that the race-baiters are having a field day -- with the ammo Lott gave them.

How many more F-UPS from this guy do we need to endure is my question.

BTW - I'm not willing to "write off" the black vote.
