Go to Internet Explorer and select Tools>>Internet Options>>Advanced>>Browsing, Then uncheck the option "Automatically Check for Internet Explorer Updates". I believe that might do it.

Maybe, maybe not. If you've installed the latest service pack for Win2K or XP, you clicked through a End User License Agreement that says, in essence, that you agree that Microsoft has a right to install software on your machine at any time and that any method you might use to stop them may be disabled without notice.

Crap like this is why so many countries are telling Microsoft to take their invasive, unsecure and buggy software and stuff it.

You could also go to Start>>Run and type in msconfig then click OK. Click on the startup tab and look at the updaters that run at start up.

Click here to go to a site that lists what these items are and if they can be safely bypassed.
