Quo custodio custodius.
(Who guards against the guardians -- if my Latin is correct.)
I guess the grand jury.

Answer: Ear-fay of Od-Gay.
A pig latin answer to a worry the Roman pig elites would have had.

I first heard about this from a caller on the Jeff Ward show here in Austin. I didn't believe it at first.

I've read this article twice and I cannot find waht the point of the "raid" was. There is a lot here about whether the "raid" was conducted properly, but what was the original point?

"...which was launched in response to complaints about illegal drag racing."270 people drag racing in a Kmart parking lot? This whole thing stinks.

There is a lot here about whether the "raid" was conducted properly, but what was the original point? the original raid was to crack down on street racers and loiterers. here's an article describing the purpose of the raid. (post 30 in that thread has links to many other threads here discussing it.)

The original point was that Kmart was complaining about all the teens and their "pimped out" cars loitering in the Kmart parking lot at night. The 100's of kids were unruly and intimidated customers who were trying to get in and out of the store.
Sorry kids but $1000 for rims and a spoiler does not make a Honda Civic go any faster. You should spend your money on a real car and forget the aftermarket plastic parts.

Maybe the cops could settle by agreeing to carry
advertisements for Kmart and Sonic on their cars.

Sed quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
But who guards the guards themselves? Juvenal, Satire VI

Indictments will follow. As they should. A more egregious example of wholesale abuse of police power is hard to imagine.
We're lucky nobody got killed.

City officials later dropped all trespassing and curfew charges resulting from the arrests. do you know if this includes those who had already pled guilty so they could go home that evening?
and on a similiar note, what of the people who were arrested previously at the coney islander? did they get the charges dropped and are any of the lawsuits from them?

You were following this pretty close, if I remember correctly.

Having all of those expensive assessories might make the cars go faster, as in a more inviting target for car thieves to drive them away faster. :) That is assuming that they don't just strip the asscessories off and leave the bare chassis on blocks.

I don't remember anyone claiming that Kmart had complained. There were stories claiming otherwise.
