George Washington, to whom we owe our republic, doesn't rate as a worthy of a holiday here, but Cesar Chavez does! Contact the university president to find out why this happens in the United States.:

When I attended my SJSU graduation ceremony (Masters 1995) they had a political speaker of Hispanic origin who spoke for easily 40 minutes, a totally Democrat campaign speech. It was hot, my pushing-80 parents were there...very uncomfortable with the weather AND the speaker...as was I.
I wrote to the University President about his poor judgement for allowing this to happen, and he replied with a "yadda yadda-so-sorry-you-didn't-like-the-speaker letter. Very smug. I'm afraid your letter writing to him may prove worthless. Good luck, anyway.

Not so unexpected really. We consolidated Washington and Licoln's birthdays into Presidents Day so we could make room for MLK day and it seems they've done something similar for that marxist Chavez.

This state university, like so many, is really fit only to be a stream-breaker in a urinal.

Well, gee, we're a diverse nation, how about Socialist Folk Heros Day? That could cover Chavez, MLK, Gus Hall, what's their names who invented the Wobblies, etc.

Welcome to Free Republic! Are you still in the area? I'm in the People's Republic of Santa Cruz.

One Washington Square San Jose
Look for them to change the address soon to: One
Cesar Chavez Square San José
They already have a Cesar Chavez Park a few blocks west of there.

seems they've done something similar for that marxist Chavez. The way to celebrate that day should include eating a big bowl of lettuce and grapes.

I don't think Cesar Chavez was all that bad though. He promoted non-violence, he was against illegal immigration and he even called illegals that very politically incorrect term "wetbacks".

It's amazing just how out of step the Bay Area, and LA, are with the rest of the state. You should take a peak at the votes in the recent election for governor, if you want an example of what I mean.

I was suprised by the close election. Why did the Bushies blow off Simon? Because he defeated their choice?

The party did support Riordon(sp?) but they did support Simon. Bush came out to CA for a few visits. If you look at the election returns map by county, the Bay Area, and LA put Davis back in office for 4 more years. The rest of the state voted him out.
While I would rather Simon were the winner, Davis and the Dems will have no one to blame for the coming economic disaster in CA. Sad days for the state, but you reap what you sow...

It just struck mew that Bush didn't include CA in his last swing, even though polling showed Simon advancing. Did Riordan's people bring out the vote, or did they sit on their hands in LA?

There was a "Republicans for Davis" movement going on, looks like they got their wish.

Sort of like "Catholics for Choice." In other words, an oxymoron.
