Thanks for posting. This appears to continue the changing slant on things.

The shootings in Canada, and in the Buffalo area, always happened just as hunting season opened - that is, October, and it's easy to make a case for stray rounds in all these cases.
On the other hand, Mr. John Muhammad picked October for his concentrated terror campaign.
This is undoubtedly a case where the FBI and the Mounties (even more bovine in their thinking than are the pro-aborts) are relying more on a "profile" than on evidence. Besides, the last thing the Mounties want to do is blame the wounding of an abortionist on a bunch of Moslem extremists, eh?!

"serial killer" - only if it's John Muhammad. Otherwise you will have to give us some more names if you want to stick with "Atomic Dog". I think there's some sort of standard on this , like 5 in 10 years - something like that - someone else in FR probably knows.
So far even the Mounties haven't accused "Atomic Dog" of killing any of theirs.

"This is the one and only direct murder of an abortion doctor, isn't it? Or almost the one and only?"Two abortionists in the U.S. are known to have been killed by anti-abortionists. The first abortionist-killing in the U.S. that I'm aware of was Lynne Weller, who was killed by two hit men hired by a rival abortionist.

The parallel for Kopp might be ignoring the law against first degree murder, in order to stop however many premediated murders that Slepian could be counted to commit, by his appointment book.
Everything that I have read about James Kopp, and testimony from his many friends, indicate that he would never take another's life because that would forever prevent that person from seeking forgiveness for his sins.
I wish you could see District Attorney Frank J. Clark when he makes his statements on TV. He can't wait to see Kopp convicted and sentenced.
Clark was outraged to hear that Barket described Kopp as a heroic figure. "We'll see how the jury looks at it," Clark said. "As far as I'm concerned, this was one of the most heinous, cowardly crimes I've ever seen."
The prosecution and, I'm afraid, the jury will not be swayed by a "necessity defense".

The only evidence I'd need was his fleeing the country. That troubled me. But, facts are out that within 24 hours of the crime, FBI was in Kopp's apartment, collecting his property. Pretty quick reaction to name a suspect for a crime done in the dark, get witnesses to ID him and get a warrant to search, is it not?
You and I had better hope not. If Kopp chooses this strategy, he will set the pro-life movement back twenty years.
Dunno. "Set the pro-life movement back twenty years"? They were killing about as many babies twenty years ago as they killed today Set back from what?

Set back from what? Most Americans don't view the pro-life movement as favoring murder.

Most Americans don't view the pro-life movement as favoring murder. My surmise is that Kopp does not care what "most Americans think." And the "pro-life movement" is moribund.
I am only speculating as to motives for Kopp to change his defense. I do not think he cares for the so-called "movement." It is not in the news, not on any top ten lists of great concerns to the sheeple. So, Kopp sees his mission to bring it back to Page One.

Clinton and Reno were desperately trying to establish a pro-life RICO conspiracy for their own political purposes, and Kopp was their fall guy. I don't know who shot him, but just about the ONLY pro-lifers who have resorted to such violence were a few mentally-unstable hangers-on like that fellow in Brookline, Mass. who later committed suicide in jail. Mature pro-lifers just aren't the type to go around killing people, even abortionists.
Yes, it could have been Muslim terrorists. I take it that Slepian is an Armenian name, and we know what the Muslims think of the Armenians.

While I agree that most Americans don't view pro-lifers as condoning murder, I would not be too quick to say 'Kopp is guilty as hell'. Someone has killed and tried to kill abortionists. I call abortionists 'serial killers' because that is what they do. Kopp is accused of killing Slepian and there is a trial process to be followed. If Kopp actually killed Slepian and did so as a means to stop the doktor from further serial killing, then Kopp is also a murderer just like his victim, in our society.
Stopping the sanctioned serial killing will best occur by the American people awakening to the reality of individual human beings being murdered in the womb, and rejecting that despotic evil. [I have said before that if Eric Rudolph actually wants to further the stopping of this heinous slaughter, he could turn himself over to me or someone like me so as to collect the reward and use it to proclaim the right to life of the unborn. The bombing in Birmingham killed a totally innocent security guard, and that's murder, so the consequences are due to the perp, whomever that is. The verdict is still out on Eric Rudolph.]

"I hope the judges don't allow Mr. Barket to turn this case into a debate over abortion," Dalley said. "There are other places for that debate. This is a murder case. We don't need more unrest in this community about abortion."That's just the point. Abotion IS murder.

Nice quotes. This one caught my eye: "We don't need more unrest in this community about abortion."
imho, we need a WHOLE lot more unrest in a LOT of communities about abortion.

MURDER OUGHT TO BE SOLE FOCUS OF TRIAL
The Buffalo News/Everybody's Column
11/10/2002
As a pro-life advocate, I am outraged and horrified by Bruce Barket's attempt to turn James Kopp's trial into a debate on abortion. A more sure way to tar all pro-life people as zealots and terrorists is hard to imagine.
This trial is about murder, the premeditated killing of a man in his own home and in front of his family. It is about the taking of the life of a husband and father, of leaving a widow to raise four sons by herself. The only question before the jury is whether Kopp was the person who pulled the trigger. Barket should be reminded that there is no right to murder. Surely one who defends life should be the first to abhor murder for any reason.
I trust the judge will see that the case stays focused on the question to be answered: Did Kopp murder Dr. Barnett Slepian? If he did, he should be punished as a killer. And he will be no martyr in my eyes, but rather a traitor to those of us who believe any human being's life is to be protected and cherished.
