I especially liked the closing comment by the ABC reporter which was basically..."The Democrates can only hope Mondale can change the subject." Considering his picture at the rally has been splashed all over the news its kind of hard to forget he was there in the middle of it. And oh by the way, the election is in less than a week.

I haven't donated to anything but FR all year. Today I gave the Coleman campaign $50. And I don't even live in Minnesota.

The Brian Williams edition of NBC cable news was very good to the GOP. They reported the apology from the Wellstone senior campaign aide who said he took full repsonsibility for what happened. I don't recall any anti-Coleman parts of it at all.

Who was number 2 in the DNC's behind the scenes polling to find a viable candidate?

What does Walter Mondale stand for these days? He didn't make news as Ambassador to Japan. I guess that we have him to thank for "keeping the peace".

I wonder if this candidate has too much freezer burn.

My mother tuned into CBS news tonight. I walked in as CBS was covering the DemoCrap Pep Rally. I was pleasantly surprised with the coverage.

The 'Rats are in a feeding frenzy where they are eating each other alive. We should stay out of their way on this one.

Also, would they not just filibuster the entire lame duck session away?

Dittos. I've been scared to death the Republicans would come out criticizing too much and blow the whole deal. Best to act like ladies and gentlemen and let the idiots do their own hanging.

It would seem that the Rats in several of these scampaigns are trying to run the clock out; prevent the GOP candidates from even approaching anything that looks like a campaign ("how could you at a time like this?"), denying them a candidate name to run against, and refusing to debate until the eve of the election.

Same tactic in NJ as Minnesota.

"It's interesting that Minnisota voters are so discusted that Walter Mondale's poll numbers are now almost double digit to Coleman's Probably too much to hope that Republicans had a chance in Minnisota..."

"The poll was taken before the "memorial service" and skewed 51% to Democrats."

Thank you for clearing that up!
I only surf Rather Jennings and Brokaw to compare their liberal bias to the real & True news here and on oother conservative web sites
I should know by now to not put any stock in anything they say!
I must be getting slow since I passed 50

As usual CBS has their facts wrong. Wellstone was in a King Air 100 turbo prop. Coleman was shown boarding a Citation jet.

When you say "basically say", is it possible the republicans are keeping their distance from the issue so as not to reverse the big old boomerang effect?

BS. When you have a Judy Woodruff criticizing the DemocRATs and she asks you a question, you can at least agree with her. You sure as hell don't want to argue with her.

That's what I expect would happen on everything except the items they need to get passed. There's no way you can get 60 votes to shut down a filabuster at this stage. In addition they couldn't reorganize the Senate in the time remaining. Heck it took them weeks just to figure out how to share power when the convened in Jan. 01...

Jesse Ventura (Mn Gov) just said he will appoint "A REGULAR CITIZEN to the remaining time on Wellstone's seat !!!!!

I heard something similar on FNC,, only I heard that Jesse said he was so disturbed by last night's events that altho he had intended to appoint a D,, he will now appoint an I.

This is all well and good. Except. Now we have "A Regular Citizen" with no party affiliation, so no built-in mentoring network, wandering around the Capitol Complex. BOTH parties will be attempting to lure Mr/Ms Regular Citizen into their court.

Mr/Ms Regular Citizen would quickly need to decide which party to Caucus with in order to get up to speed on the issues... Yes, this Regular Citizen could hire a staff,,, but the good, honest staff people are already taken,,, and the ones applying for this job would be doing so with the intent of leading the Regular Citizen down their own path of special interest. No doubt we would have both experienced D and R staffers looking for a parttime job to bring RC up to speed and to subtley instill their party bias. And I hate to say this, but in all likelihood both parties would probably hire someone to mole into RC's office in an attempt to secure the vote.

Quite honestly, I see some really huge pitfalls here. I just cannot imagine RC coming out of this with any self respect in tact.

And I think all of us freepers initially made the mistake of assuming Jesse's Regular Citizen would vote with the Republicans. There are no guarentees in life. Buy lots of Maalox.

Rather's aid voiced that the participants "jeered" Lott and Ventura. It sounded like "cheered" when she said it. I'm sure CBS chose that "jeered" term to soften the blow to the RATs.

Sorry, but the GOP is playing this exactly the way they should be. The Dems have messed up big time, so badly that even the liberal media are making our case for us.

BS. If the liberal media are "making our case for us", why in the hell should some "Republicans" be disagreeing with them? As I said, they seem to be desparately trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

They don't have to rant and rave, but if "Big media" is being critical of the DemocRATs, couldn't the Republicans at least agree?

Rush was speechless. He basically said that he thought that he had seen it all, but that this "performance" was basically lower than low.

Yes, our local radio talk show following Rush basically had the same take....that it was in bad taste...and that it disgraced Wellstone's memory with it's mean-spirited attitude toward those Republicans who attended.

I heard jeered too--and agree. However, my elder mother was across the room, and knew exactly what was said. Fortunately, the look on the reporter's face was one of dismay as she related the story. Her expression described a nasty event.

It's not integrity, it's the fact that the Republicans are now demanding equal time to cover their rally on Monday, with Bush, Cheney and Guliani. They probably won't get equal time, but they have to give them some, and the networks don't like it.
