And in Arizona, here's how it works:
You show up at the registration window, say you have no insurance, and the clerk enters your status as "International Cash Applied." This means you pay on the spot or get billed. You give the clerk a phony address and recieve your medical care.
The finance office some time later sends a bill to your phony address, and you're off scott free.
No brag, just fact...it happens here on a daily basis. I don't see how hospitals pay any taxes whatsoever with the amount of bad debt they are writing off...

I hope AG Ashcroft DOES explain WHY the INS is still such a mess.
PRESIDENT BUSH CALLS FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM AS PART OF HOMELAND SECURITY EFFORTS
This week the White House released its long awaited formal plans to combat terrorism and prevent future attacks. The centerpiece of the plan is the creation of a new Department of Homeland Security, which would coordinate government efforts in six main areas: intelligence and warning, border and transportation security, domestic counterterrorism, protecting critical infrastructure, defending against catastrophic terrorism, and emergency preparedness and response. The plan calls for the INS to be moved out of the Justice Department and into the new Homeland Security Department. President Bush and his Cabinet members have said that such a complete transfer is necessary, but many in Congress believe only the Border Patrol should be transferred. There is concern that placing immigration services in an agency designed to combat terrorism could cause the provision of services to suffer. However, the Administration has expressed agreement to a plan that would separate immigration enforcement and services within the new Department.

Get the Democrats out of congress.

Works about the same here in Oregon. What a crock.

Our government is not protecting us and our borders. God knows what will happen when we hit Iraq. How many foot soilders for Saddam and Osama have crossed our borders to seek revenge?
It's time to put the military on our borders to repel this invasion.

This has been going on a long time. The democrats have a source of ever-increasing votes and the republicans cheap labor. Every poll taken shows Americans do *not* want this going on but politicians pay no attention. Anyone who even dares broach the subject is immediately branded a "racist" or "white nationalist" and considered insensitive if we do not welcome with open arms everyone who wishes to live here, soak up benefits and free health care on your dime. Get used to it, Californians have been warning us about this for years but nobody paid any attention. Coming soon to a town near you.

It is already beyond repair. Cali. and probably the rest of the Southwest are lost. Just a few more years to make it official.

Try to be more understanding and tolerant. You don't have any right to object to paying for non citizens and to actually want to preserve the nations integrity. (sarcasm)

I wonder why no one has posted a breaking news on this invasion. Also keep wondering why so many people want to come to the "evil" country.

We have to get a handle on immigration. Eventually, it will be beyond repair.
It's already beyond repair.
The pols and gov ain't going to fix it just because, we the people, don't like it.
It would take something drastic to quell the flood.

It is already beyond repair. Cali. and probably the rest of the Southwest are lost. Just a few more years to make it official.I agree with you. But what I find rather ironic is that as the Latino population in California continues to increase percentage-wise, and as Latino politicians crow about the fact that Latinos are taking over California and will soon be running it at every government level, more and more whites will move out of state in search of whiter pastures elsewhere. As the whites leave, they will take their money, assets, businesses, jobs, and their skills and expertise in a variety of work-related fields with them. Since most of the Latino workers currently flooding the state of California are relatively unskilled and uneducated, they desperately need the white-owned businesses to give them jobs. After a large percentage of these white-owned businesses leave California due to high taxes, high crime rates, and lowering standards of living and quality of life, what will the Latinos do? Can you picture millions of Latino illegal aliens and others wandering around California unemployed and desperate? California is in pretty bad shape right now, but in my opinion, it is going to get nightmarishly worse in the years to come.

Well that's it in a nut shell. We have lost it and we can't keep it, maybe we never had it. One thing for sure is that we don't deserve it, we are all guilty of neglect - but our leaders, our representatives, have by and large been appalling - they took an oath, collectively they have let us down.

After a large percentage of these white-owned businesses leave California due to high taxes, high crime rates, and lowering standards of living and quality of life, what will the Latinos do?Go to other states. This is already happening. That's why so many Californians have escaped only to find that their new states are now as bad, or almost as bad, as that which they fled.
Another question is, when there's nowhere left to flee to, what will we all do?
