This schism didn’t last long, and in 1976, no one pushed harder than Humphrey to make Mondale Carter’s vice president, and now I’m sure no one misses Hubert more than Fritz.

Too bad Fritz couldn't have helped Humphrey when it counted when he was still alive. (Book written a couple of years after Humphrey's death).

This book was written by Hubert Humphrey's close friend and personal physician, Edgar Berman.

As you can see, I found that book that I mentioned yesterday. The only place where my memory failed me was that it was the during the 1968 election, not later, when Mondale cold-shouldered Humphrey.

Even tho Hubert was a Socialist through and through, he was nowhere near the heatless statis/elitist Mondale was.
Even 'Clean' Gene McCarthy of Minnesota had few good words for Fritz, suggesting. "Mondale has the soul of a vice president."

I wouldn't consider HHH a Socialist. IMHO, he was the last of the old-time populist liberals --- the kind of guy that LIEberman pretends to be.

HHH was a tough-ass Cold Warrior and as patriotic as they come. I disagreed with his economic beliefs, (which BTW were nearly identical to Nixon's) but he was not a radical leftist like Wellstone or a grubby divide & conquer race and class bating socialist like McCarthy or Mondale.

Notice the gratitude that Mondale did....NOT....show Humphrey.

I'll defer to your call on HHH. He was gone when we lived up north. I do recall reading he was a chamion of the RKBA and ran the Communists out of the old DFL.

What I really wanna know is, will Bill Clinton be campaigning for him? 'Specially if it means an opportunity to reintroduce himself into Mondale's daughter.

This supports the information that I found in the Larry O'Brien interview at the LBJ library. The interviewer wondeed why mondale suddenly disappeared from the meetings. O'Brien hedged on the answer.

I guess he didn't want to accuse Fritz Mondale of rank ingratitude.

My guess as well. He knew his comments were being recorded for posterity, so he hedged his bets.

I think Mondale is NOT a nice person, and I will bet if Coleman can bait him Mondale will show his true colors.

Another Mondalism. If anyone saw the HBO miniseries From Earth To Moon, Walter Mondale was the leading critic of the space program and tried to kill it in favor of aid programs to the poor. Mondale specifically tried to use hearings into the Apollo 1 fire tragedy to kill the program. Considering that Tom Hanks produced the miniseries it was not conservative propoganda. Where would we be technologically today without the space program?

I wonder if I can obtain this video from the Library?

>> I hadn't thought about that angle.

He's the shagadelic president, Baby. Love to see Mondale, Bill and Hillary on the same platform. At least Fritz and the Hill-monster on the same committee.

If Mondale does this, he signifies that there are no depths to the humilation he is willing to endure in order to have one more moment of sunshine.

It doesn't matter if Mondale is "mean" and not the "compassionate" sort that the Democrats claim to embrace, the people of MN would never accept as "fact" (if so) that ol' Fritz is "mean." People in MN can never get enough of socialists like Mondale. They are always in favor of expanding government. Their distant cousins in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden are the same way. Even if they vote conservative on occasion, two years later you always see them coming back to the nationl trough for sustenance at the first sign of Republican "hard times."
