Guns of The South has been the only Turtledove book that I have read to this date. Turtledove has some insight as to what the leaders of that period believed since he is a historian. It was fantasy though, I prefer Non-fiction reads. I believe this was the only fictional historical novel I ever read.

I enjoy Harry Turtledove’s books. I’ve read all of his Great War books and I’d like to correct one error made by the Author. “Guns of the South” was not the first book of the World War series. “Guns of the South” is a time travel novel. The first book – actually the prequel – of the World War series is “How Few Remain” which postulates that Lee won the Civil War in 1862 when the French and British intervene to break the blockade.
