I was thinking that sometimes explosives are found the hard way. I do not trust a nation that started two world wars.

FBI, Coast Guard search Danish cargo ship off Fort Lauderdale coast

Officials searched a container on a Danish cargo ship for explosives Friday, but only found the copper sheets that were on the manifest.

Authorities had received a tip that an explosive was hidden in a container on the 1,065-foot Maren Maersk at Port Everglades, said Hector Pesquera, the FBI's special agent in charge of the Miami division.

The ship originated in Bremerhaven, Germany, and was later headed to Honolulu.

Pesquera said FBI agents also were acting on a threat concerning Honolulu.

This week, the FBI received a letter claiming a large shipment of explosives would be delivered to Honolulu for an attack on a Navy base in December, television stations reported. The FBI confirmed that it received a letter, but would not discuss its contents.

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Members of a joint terrorism task force team boarded a ship in Port Everglades Friday after receiving intelligence information it might have explosives onboard but a search found none, authorities said.

Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne told a news conference, "The Coast Guard interdicted a vessel on the high seas that, we thought might have materials of an explosive nature in it.

"We have inspected a container that was the most suspect container. That container was unloaded from the ship, it was placed, it was opened ... we reviewed it, we sent our people in with probes and we did not find anything besides large copper sheets, and that was it," Jenne added.
