C'MON! How can you argue witht this? Did you see how these poor pregnant pigs are made to live? How would you like to live in a cage while pregnant when you can't even turn around? This is definetely CRUEL!

No....so animals....okay to use pens.

Are you going to tell me you have nothing in your life that is not the result of an animal being used; hide, food, testing...how about the bleach bottle blonde job? Dontcha think that they tested it on animals?

This voter issue is a crock.

Why don't they give visual examples of "vruel crates" on that site? Because they are hog farms. Oink.

It's about the size of the 'pens'. They just want bigger ones.

How did you go from pens to blond bottle? Jeez...have some more coffee.

Thanks! I think I will. My point was (I think) that animals are used for various pruposes and having a bigger pen (which isn't necessary) won't make a difference. The other comment was to say even you benefit from animals being used, and they go through caging, which you benefit from.

How big are the pens they are in now? Are they able to lay down and stretch out?

A proposed amendment to Florida's constitution seeks to limit the "cruel and inhumane confinement of pigs during pregnancy." The ballot initiative would specifically outlaw caging pigs in gestation crates on so-called "corporate factory farms." Gestation crates are metal enclosures that measure two feet across and prevent sows from turning around freely. The crates cause them to suffer from crippling foot and joint disorders, and to experience chronic stress, depression and other psychological disorders throughout their four-month pregnancy, according to advocates.

This is what I see and I don't care how it's stopped. MAybe it wouldn't have had to go this far if the stupid farmers would have changed their 'pen size' on their own...but I guess it takes an admendment to MAKE them have a little heart. So blame them for 'just saying no'.

The reason pens are made so the pregnant pig can't turn around is so they don't eat their newborns. It is a problem with hogs. Sows can be real nasty when giving birth. Don't believe me? Ask Porky...

I won't give the obvious reply and ask if you have ever laid in one position for an extended period of time. I doubt you have, anyhow. ;o)

I wonder how pigs survived all these years BEFORE crates? They couldnt' have eaten ALL their young.
Anyway..that only proves they go insane when locked up.
