Note the last paragraph of Sen. Byrd's bio. I heard this on Rush this afternoon (info called in by a listener to his show) and I thought I'd look it up myself and share it here as well.

Ho-hum. Old news.

He conveniently omits his Klan activities.

Fatemi is an Iranian name. Note that one of the children is named Darius, the name of an ancient ruler of the Persian empire. Probably an assimilated doctor or something like that, a religious nut would have given their kids Arabic names. However, almost every Iranian I have ever met is violently anti-Jewish, and "Mo" and Senator KKK probably had lots to talk about at the Thanksgiving dinner.

He seems to have left out the part about being a recruiter for the KKK in his bio.

Born in 1917, which would make him 24 on 7 December 1941. Hardly too old to serve. In fact I think it's pretty close to the average age of those serving in WW-II. Why was he out making scads of money welding, traveling all the way to Tampa to do so, which could have been handled by older men and Rosie the Riveter and her sisters, instead of in uniform? Hmmm? Maybe an injury received while out burning a cross?

Nearly every arab and non-jewish middle easterner over 60 was raised by card-carying Nazis. Particularly Saddam. What we are dealing with in the middle east is undefeated Nazism.

It is getting pathetic that there is more honest patriotic sentiment in the Nation magazine these days then in supposedly "conservative" publications. I'll be polite and simply say that's absurd. The Nation has continually defended people who tried to destroy this country, in case you've forgotten Hiss and company.
P.S. Welcome to Free Republic.

We should defend our own nation and avoid dangerous foreign wars for foreign interests. Weren't the WTC towers in America?
Our war should have stayed against the Islamic terrorist groups, the shift to Iraq makes no sense.
Iraq is a supporter of those terrorist groups, as has been well known long before 9-11. Additionally he tried to kill a former President of the United States. That too is a matter of American interest, don't you think?

I was wondering the same thing. He wasn't in the service at a time that most men of his age were. Although, I understand that FDR, or someone in government, issued a guideline that married men with children were exempt from the draft. Perhaps he was already a father, or had a medical condition. What bothers me is he tries to make it sound like being a welder of liberty ships was a patriotic thing to do. It was also a nice paying job as it requires a skill.

Sen. Byrd is an American patriot. He is saying what all true conservatives should be saying. All true conservatives should emulate a KKK recruiter and the biggest recipient of federal pork in Senate history?
We should defend our own nation...
From, say, a nuclear device being detonated in Philadelphia?
...and avoid dangerous foreign wars for foreign interests.
And how is preventing Philadelphia from being reduced to an irradiated crater a "foreign interest"? However, I am glad that you want us to stay out of the "dangerous" foreign wars since I only want to fight in the "safe" ones.
(I would continue the Fisking, but I have things to do today...)

Thank you for coming to FR recently to add some comic relief. There are some here who actually might take you seriously, so I wanted to let everyone know. Pat Buchanan, whom I once admired, is now a discredited joke.
