Or beat the monster to death while he was on the ground. If they had gouged his eyes out, they could have prevented this (albeit relatively minor) tragedy. Just because nobody died doesn't mean nobody suffered.

Why the hell didn't the soldiers on the bus shoot this guy while he was on the ground?

The people who held down the bomber were in constant risk of their own lives. The bomb probably had a booby trap and perhaps even a timer, in case the bomber himself had second thoughts. It's too bad someone could not have shot the bomber from a relatively safe distance. How would you have performed under those circumstances?

I just saw an interview with the bus driver. He said they were afraid.
I don't understand this why didn't they called someone with gun to kill him, there were probably a lot of pepole with guns on the street there.

Soldiers on the bus should have shot this guy while, or instead of relying on civilians to hold him down.

I have had martial arts training that includes gouging out an opponent's eyes and crushing his trachea as primary goals. I THINK I could take someone's eyes out with my fingers - I sure know exactly what to do - but, obviously, I won't know that unless I have to use that training.

scary stuff - too bad no one had a gun or they might have been able to shoot the bastard as he was running away. Somewhat surprising that someone didn't have one. Maybe they did, and missed.

I think this is why a man should always have a pocket knife handy. Its hard to detonate a bomb after you're bled out. 'Course I'm safe in my basement. I might be one of those people who wet myself when the pressure is on...

Most people don't have any training and have never contemplated things like this. I'm not sure what I would do in a situation like this but I hope I would be able to incapacitate someone, which is tough to do when they are all doped up. It never goes down nice and polite like it does in the movies, that's for sure.

Now Yasser will have to get his Iraqi money by direct deposit, right into his offshore bank accounts.

I cannot believe what you wrote was what I just thought. Wow.

A fellow martial artist, huh?
That's one thing about martial arts that I like. The monotonous commands and movements that are a part of training actually become gross motor movement when you're under fight or flight conditions. Kinda the same way boot camp works. Anyway, when fight or flight comes, that spearhand to the throat is reflex. Or that rear naked choke into a broken neck, depending on your martial art... :-)
Anyway, I'm glad you pointed out "what would you have done?" It's kinda easy to say what should have been done, but most people just wet themselves. I personally think that anyone who latches onto a human bomb is pretty amazing, to be truthful.
Could somebody walking down the street pulled a piece and shot the guy? Most people under pressure can't hit the broad side of a barn with a firearm. Even cops miss over half the time. Compound that with the fact that you have the dumb
b@stard struggling with two people? I mean, they are struggling, so firing a shot with a rifle from a sidewalk into the terrorist w/o hitting the driver or other guy is pretty hard. And good handgun range is what, 15-20 feet? How many people are going to walk into blast range and fire at the mad bomber? PLUS, there is a chance you could hit the explosives.
Could they have put him in a shoulder keylock, broken his arms, snapped his neck, and then diffused the bomb with a toothpick, like Macguyver? Highly unlikely. I think they did pretty dang good just to keep him off the bus, and not let him diffuse the bomb.
And finally, you've gotta remember that human beings are basically greedy. We care about ourselves and loved ones. That's it. The two people holding this prick down had family. We always seem to forget that. I believe in helping our fellow man, and these two people went WAY beyond the call of duty. They've both probably got kids. Wives, too. How many people are ready to die like that, with their body parts raining down around them? This doc and driver should be given medals for what they did, not crucified for what they didn't.
