This is my first Post here at Free Republic. I am a regular poster at Free Dominion, Free Republic's Canadian chapter.
Farmer's being sent to jail for selling grain? Truth is stranger than fiction.
This is an outrageous travesty and infringement on basic human rights. Canada claims that it supports human rights but it abuses its farmers horribly in the middle of the worst drought in recorded history.
The state of Canadian agricluture is shameful. And this is the final outrage.
Jim Ness, one of the farmer's likely being hauled off in handcuffs next month is a Free Dominion member.
Time for a serious FReep for farmers.
Will Free Republic, our North American sister website help Free Dominion with an international FReep on this issue?
Based on the issues of human rights. Would Free Republic members be willing to send emails something like this:
I am an American citizen, and I am shocked to learn that Canada sends farmer's to jail for selling grain. As this is a political issue, Jim Ness and the other farmer's should be pardoned and this should be settled without sending productive, law abiding citizens to jail for selling their grain.
Will you help us?

I believe American farmers have the same problem.

We have it worse here in the States in some ways. If an American comes into the USA with high water volume flushing Canadian toilets he will be busted.

Anyone who says that we have a free society, US or Canada, needs only to read a few of these threads. It is downright scary.

Heck yeah, I'll drop a few emails to the appropriate places! Do you have list of email addresses, or some government web sites that may have them?

Boy I can attest to that...recently a physician friend of mine was putting together a new office. He was informed by a contractor that he had to but the expensive low capacity toilet. If he wanted the toilet that really flushes well, then he'd have to go find one across the international border. Then, he would have to haul the illegal toilet back into California for installation.
The RATS have soooo screwed us!

Ah, the joys of a cartel. Sell your stuff on the open market and go to the big house. Karl Marx is rejoycing.

Actually no, the USA has some market structures in place for farmers but none that make it illegal to sell grain on the free market.
A US farmer can sell to a Canadian farmer, but as you can see Canadian farmer's go to jail if they sell to US farmers.
The Canadian Government through the Canadian Wheat Board infringes on the basic human rights of Canadian farmers to make a living.

They point out that farmers in Ontario and Quebec are allowed to market their own products, but farmers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have to sell their barley and wheat to the board. "That's discrimination," Ness said. It sounds politically correct to me.
Of course, I'm not a politically correct supporter. Free the farmers. Government should have no say on social issues.

The RATS have soooo screwed us! Flush once and get the job done, or flush 3 times to do the same thing. More water ends up getting used. Heck, flush a few extra times just for spite. Flush away, America!

I wanted to see if anyone was interested, before I started providing the email links. I'll start posting now.
Thank you Northeast.
I'm going to link this page back to Free Dominion and we'll start FReeping there too.
This could be a long drawn out battle. So be prepared.

I know which politician I'd like to give a new hairdo to. And, it'd be alot cheaper than the one she's already got (plus it would look more "modern")
To: concerned about politics
I was completely unaware of our country's toilet crisis until I moved into my new house. I had owned only 2+ gallon ones previously, and now I'm stuck with these impotent 1 gallon pieces of ....
3 flushes minimum to get the job done.

"If this is a political issue, is it possible that we are going to be political prisoners?" Ness asked Tuesday.
Yes. Similar to 2,300 years ago when Socrates chose to drink the Hemlock rather than give any credibility to bogus political rulers. They didn't want to carry through with their political agenda, knowing that it was bogus, so they arranged an escape route for Socrates. Their hope was that he would "escape" so that they wouldn't have to put him to death. Socrates chose to stand firm on honest principle and chose to drink the Hemlock over escape.

I'm a contractor, and I've found that the best toilet is Kohler. Brand DOES make a difference.

How does the Canadian Wheat Board work? Does it set the prices? Who are these elected delegates?

I really don't know much about ancient Greece, but from what I can recall from philosophy class, Socrates was a pederast and one of his students damaged a politically important monument, and his mentorship was held to be at fault for it. It's not too difficult for me to imagine that such relationships can foster such acts, and so it is not clear why you say that the trial involved a "political agenda" of any but the most minimal sort, given the circumstances. I'm not claiming any expertise in this subject, however.
