I KNEW I could find the old "Member since" HTML:

I feel the War on Terrorism is a greater priority than the War on Drugs.

Well I can chew gum and rub my tummy at the same time. Do you think Uncle Sam is up to the challenge?

"Excuse me, I may be new to FR but I find it ironic that our justice system will send people away for life for a drug charge and only give 20 years to someone who took up arms against our nation."

I believe this plea deal was made to get information from this taliban traitor.

An ounce sounds so innocent! Have you ever given thought to where the rest of that stash is sold?? How many kids and families are destroyed??

The numbers may well go higher than those that died at the WTC.

What is miguided about beliving that John Walker should have received a harsher sentance than 20 years?

While your point on drugs and drug sentences might be valid this thread is not about drugs and the War on Drugs. There are plenty of threads where this gets debated over and over. Don't try to hi-jack the thread and turn it in to your personal campaign.

The War on Drugs is such an outstanding success...nobody can get illegal drugs anywhere in America today. Not at any price.

The misguided part is that it takes 3 oz of pot to get the life sentence. It would also be misguided if Taliban John gets to serve the 20 in solitary instead of whatever portion of the 20 he survives in the general population, where he wouldn't live to see 20 years (if it's solitary, it should be life).

War and utopia. I'm still waiting for the latter.

Get a load of this CNN story:
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (CNN) -- After telling a courtroom that he made a mistake in joining the Taliban, John Walker Lindh was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Friday.

"A Mistake"?? What?? "Oops; I can't believe I joined a bunch of radical anti-American terrorists -- D'OH!"

Sorry, I lept before I looked further. One last time (I THINK I finally got it right):

Station 51 member since Setember 7, 2002

Explanation time, it is a time-honored tradition to post the "member since" dates of newbies (sometimes with embellishments). The table I used is the old method used to display this on a member's home page (sadly, JohnRob blew up that method).

My only point is that 20 years is rather light for Taliban John. Instead of the pot analogy I could have said stealing a car or robbing a 7-11. Both crimes are bad but not as bad as what Taliban Boy did.

Pay no attention to the inarticulate who believe themselves to be supreme debaters by displaying your sign-up date as their winning argument. As noted in post # 40, your observation is right on target and absolutely relevant to this case. Life for an ounce to marijuana, which is perfectly legal in many countries, including the USA pre-1940, and 20 years or $200,000 per cliche ridden speech for treason! As predicted here months ago, Johnny Jihad will be out in no time (on humanitarian grounds, needless to say,) hitting the university speech circuit. What a freaking country!

A few days in the general prison population would give that kid firsthand experience with his father's lifestyle that he was apparently rebelling against.

Well, according to a story out the other day, if true, ratboy didn't do such a great job of rebelling against his father's lifestyle. Seems ratboy was some moo-slim's girlfriend over there.

Frankly, the drugs have nothing to do with this. There
are plenty of drug threads you can hang out on.

This is about a traitor. You are right in that he
should receive a harsher punishment, but spread
the pot propaganda somewhere else.
