What the "hell" is the Illinois Reader and who reads this garbage?

Most publications called < insert name here > Reader are "alternative" papers. They're usually free - look for them in those cheap plastic newspaper dispensers that litter bus stops and downtown street corners. To give you an idea of the readership they are usually targeted to, simply examine the copious ads in the back pages. You'll find sheet after sheet of advertising for escort services, tattoo parlors, head shops, adult bookstores, XXX theaters, DUI lawyers, peep shows, and strip clubs.

Or you could just click on the link and check it out. That's an unbiased way to decide for yourself.

well said.
It is only a cartoon... and I think a few of the panels were quite funny... the one about sisters riding the holy golf cart.

The buff Jesus, was no shocker to me... Catholic Churches I have attended, ALL had some pretty buff "statues" and carvings of Christ, that presented him naked with a muscle bound physique. Jesus probably was muscle bound. It has been said that Jesus often walked, while talking, up to 15-20 miles EVERY day but one each week.

The statues portray that rather well.

The part that I found potentially most offensive was the "choclate chips" in the communion crackers... although there is no secret formula for communion crackers that I know of that would exclude flavoring them for the kids... except for leavening, which represents sin...

Until the leadership deals with the elephant in the livingroom, this stuff will only get worse... that elephant being the homosexual, gay male pedophiles in the priesthood... and a doctrine of forgiveness and relocation at tithepayer expense.

I don't see it as blasphemy to use offensive humor to make a point. I do see it as blasphemy to let immoral child rapists "represent" God to folks... because THAT assaults and tells lies about God's character to people. This cartoon only makes fun of the foibles of but one group of His followers, that even many of them, would admit privately.

In poor taste, or sacrilegious... perhaps to some, but actual blasphemy of God Almighty? No.
Making fun of a religious group's teachings with humor may make that group mad, but claiming blasphemy is a bit of a stretch.

The drawing ablity (or the lack therof) of the 'cartoonist' is pathetic. There is no coherent substance to the cartoon. It strikes me as the product of someone who is mentally ill.

Cordially,

"Just what does a gaggle of homosexual satanists posing as priests have to do with this despicable cartoon of insult?"

er uh.... maybe there is a connection to that pesky "sowing and reaping" principle Jesus taught.

Protestants should stand by their Catholic cousins in times like these. "First they came for the Catholics, and I did nothing..."

Very good point.

Now Flannery O'Conner would have to update her honest observation to read:"It is a habit of divisive dissenters and the bishops in bed with them to condemn the Pope for being intrusive and meddling, and for being aloof and uninvolved.".

I have read that the primary objective of an editorial cartoonist is to get people to think.I think the character representing the church looks like cardinal Mahoney sans glasses.

"In that sense I am in full agreement with FF578. Sin must be killed and right now it is to be killed by the sinner himself. If the sinner won't repent then when God's grace expires God will kill it and anyone still harboring it."

I respectfully need to point out that FF578 called for capital punishment, not just moral condemnation. You voiced support for God's punishment and disagreement with FF578's phraseology, but didn't address the conventional definition of capital punishment that he called for. So I need to ask once again, do you support the public execution of people for premarital sex, pornography, homosexuality and blasphemy?

Thank you for your reply.

Will they continue to molest young boys

They represent about one in several hundred thousand, or less, and these ad homonym attacks totally distort the truth that evil lurks in every part of society, even in your church or place of worship Catholics do not excuse the evil doers at all.....

even in your church or place of worship

Could you give me a link to that? I haven't heard of gay pedophiles raping young boys at our church. Please, enlighten me.

I don't know if what's printed in the cartoon is true or not, so it really doesn't bother me. It's no big deal.
Trying to link other Christian organizations to the Catholic organization is a cop out. They shouldn't have to bear the blame. They were no part of it.

What's with the self-rightousness? You think the rape of young boys by grown priest is something to be over looked, and the cartoon of a small newspaper an abomination?
What business is it of your what church I attend? If the pastors were sexually molesting the children, I'm sure it would have been world knowledge, too, don't you think?

Exactly as I suggested, this is an ad hominym attach on Catholics. Because Catholics are the largest Christian faith, the target is painted on them, even though every other faith suffers to a greater or lesser degree to the same problem....

Victims? You're saying the church is the victim? It was the childrens fault the church is in trouble? Maybe their parents for leaving them alone? Victim? Target? What?

There is no coherent substance to the cartoon.

Its dishonesty is therefore not only objective -- it tells lies -- but internal, since it observes no internal consistency. Though perhaps it is the cartoonist's ability to lie to himself that makes it easier to lie to his audience.

For all I know, this self-deception is a coping mechanism for someone not quite at ease with the shabby way he makes a living.

You're saying the church is the victim?

NO! I am saying that the evil was done by a relatively few Homosexual priests who are the wrong doers, NOT the Church or the body of the believers.... And if you look closely at your own denomination you will find the same problem...
